☆ how precious it all is: the film festival concert ☆

summer’s over but this magical night lives in my head still

250 of you showed up to support 50+ small artists and i cannot describe the energy

i cannot believe we achieved what we did in such a short amount of time

first wrote “knee-deep” when i was 15 and it was some big metaphor about standing in a field alone because i was too afraid to make eye contact with boys

flash forward and the song has taken on many different narratives (this is actually my favorite part about making music)

most recently its become about being pulled in two directions - when somebody tells you to wait it out just a little longer right before someone else tells you that you can’t wait for your life to happen

so you’re stuck standing in some big dry field waiting for rain and also doing everything you can to find water anywhere else

rambling but yano !

“i broke another vase” is a song for relationships that are broken despite any attempt to glue them together and cover the seams

i live next to my grandparents who are my closest friends — once i broke one of their vases, told them, then broke another one and felt so terrible that i collected all the pieces in a plastic bag with my bare hands, climbed out the window with the bag, ran home, disposed of the evidence, and drafted a letter to tell them what i had done

by the time i had gotten up the courage to tell them, my nana had already replaced the vase with new flowers and everything

at that same time, i was in a relationship with someone that shouldn’t have lasted as long as it had, with so much turbulence —
i just felt like i was constantly breaking things, and he was pretending like i hadn’t — replacing the things (but not exactly with the wiser forgiveness that my grandma had) - at some point i decided i couldn’t watch myself break him anymore and couldn’t swallow him pretending like he was fine and that nothing hurt

the funny part is that i showed this song to my dad, who thought every “i’m the problem” was sarcastic

i never intended it that way, but with more time and clarity, i understand what reality my dad saw the reality from a short distance — maybe i was taking all the blame for something i shouldn’t have — (the reality my grandparents and other close friends and my mom and my teachers and my siblings all saw)

who really is the problem in relationships like that? i still don’t know. so now the song is genuine and sarcastic. let me know how you interpret it :)))) by @sasha.haydn

wesley samuel <3 my 19-year old soul mate

there is not a place to begin. you were everything everywhere all the time.

i’ve written about 1000 letters to you in the past five years. i always intended to share them with you when i was ready. this is a heavy realization that i’m facing this week. i was not ever going to be ready in time for you to read them.

wesley held the rotation on my life - kept flipping it upside down - this is just the kind of person he was. i was not special for being head over heels for him.

too shortly after knowing him, he got in an accident that left him with four types of TBI and lung failure, he was in a coma for three months, and the ICU for six months— i’ve never known someone so resilient. every day I lived his death and was uncertain if we would have another day. every day he was still alive. I watched him push and push and push.

for the last three years he has been in recovery - his body persisted far anything anybody said he would.

this month is the anniversary of the accident. 18 days before that day, wesley was hit by a car crossing the street. he was killed on monday.

wesley was one in 1000000 million. those of you who knew him knew. I don’t know how i got so lucky to be so in love with him so young. i have so many stories.

thank you for those of you who have reached out. i appreciate the support. I feel immensely for his family at this time.

one time i fell asleep at a house party and someone told me later that a friend of mine told the group it was angelic to fall asleep in the basement of a house party
this persona of mine really liked that
