I finally finished this vampy little sweater. (Finally, meaning about two weeks.)

The yarn I used:
Drops Belle
Drops Air
Drops Alpaca
Drops Kid Silk
Rico Rumi Furry
The bulky yarn is from a specialty shop here in Berlin

Though the design is fully freehanded and there is no pattern, I utilized a variety of techniques that I’ve accumulated in my brain over the last seven months that I’ve been crocheting. Here are the main two that come to mind:

Despite feeling not quite so happy with how this shirt turned out, I have worn it out three times already since it’s been finished. It was originally supposed to be a full button down in the front, but my laziness took hold of me and I didn’t accomplish that in the end. I also wish I had committed fully to black yarn and not mixed in shades of grey. But despite all my complaints, I do think it’s quite cute and I can see myself wearing it a lot this fall/winter.

This is my first ever time making a tutorial for anything so please bare with me!

Here are are the stitches I used to create this short puff sleeve:
With a 4.5 hook:
Row 1: 5dc (base of armpit only) or 5tr per stich
Row 2: 1dc (base of armpit only) or 1tr per stitch
(repeat row 2 if longer puff is desired)
Row 3: dc2tog (base of armpit only) tr2tog in the rest
Row 4: dc2tog (base of armpit only) tr2tog in the rest
Row 5: dctog ALL stitches - repeat this row until width of arm - mine was 3 rounds of dc2tog

Yarn is Drops Alpaca in black! Mohair would also work or any thinner yarn - I might do less increases in the beginning if it was thicker. The more increases the bigger the puff!

I also added two rows of single + double crochet (single at the base of the arm) before I started the puff sleeve - this adds that little triangle before the puff starts.

I started watching Summer House only very recently so I’m late to the trend. I assume it was a trend. I actually have no idea. Anyhoo, this is a little fun bolero I freehanded over the last week. I’m love it so incredibly much and I think I’ve finally found the way to create the styles that I’ve always wanted through crochet. I have plans to recreate this bolero, but for now I’m going to continue on with this piece and turn it into a (hopefully) really neat sweater. Last year my girlfriends and I all read the Xenogenesis trilogy together. It was my first introduction to Octavia Butler’s work and even though it’s been over a year, I still think about it often, particularly her descriptions of the spaceship and how every element of it was alive, an amalgamation of different species that were assimilated and bred for utility over time. When I set out to make this sweater, I wanted to create something with military-uniform shapes and accents. I would have made it long sleeved, but I ran out of yarn and (say it with me) got bored!

The turtleneck was a huge pain in the ass and I remade it several times; big shout-out to @aboc.studio for putting up with my DMs and questions. I resolved it in the end with a button closure, because I am lazy.

It’s weird, when I am making a prototype or working with colors that don’t “spark joy” I find it really hard to continue working on a project. I almost threw this away several times after I had already completed the sleeves that I wanted, but persisted. Yes, there are several different blues here because I wanted to use up my yarn storage without buying more! And I’m pleased to have used up several old skeins. Thanks always to my teachers and inspiration to keep learning @aboc.studio and @maika_f.a.m

This top was the bane of existence for two weeks. The monotony of color work and these damn stripes was so boring I could only manage doing a few rows a day before I wanted to work on something else more fun. That being said, I am very pleased with the result. To friends, I refer to this top as being for someone “above my income level.” It belongs to someone who can afford a vacation to the parts of Italy that force local residents to give up their family homes. I had never heard of Doên before I watched a YouTube video on sewing patterns someone could buy to replicate their clothes. It is personally not my style - their clothes or this top - but I love challenging myself to replicate things that I haven’t seen before. Anyway, hope my voice isn’t too grating.

I’m trying to find some balance between crochet, work, and writing. I realized that if I push myself to work on long-form pieces, I often won’t finish them, and will feel overwhelmed to keep writing at all. So this seems like a reasonable balance. I also feel much happier, and care a great deal less about the output.
