What if we could better anticipate the challenges and opportunities that will shape our communities in the years ahead?

That was a central theme at Imagine Canada’s Saskatoon Regional Nonprofit Roundtable, where Saskatoon Community Foundation joined nonprofit leaders from across the region to explore the power of strategic foresight.

Rather than simply responding to the challenges of today, strategic foresight encourages us to look further ahead, identify emerging trends, challenge our assumptions, and consider multiple possible futures.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.

As community needs evolve and uncertainty grows, our ability to anticipate change can help us make more informed decisions, build resilience, and shape the future we want to see.

💚 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲!

Last week, the Saskatoon Community Foundation had the pleasure of taking our Board of Directors out into the community for our annual 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐲!

We visited 3 incredible organizations doing very different, but equally important, work to make our communities stronger.

🚁 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐒 – We connected with the dedicated leadership, medical professionals and pilots who work tirelessly to ensure that people experiencing some of the worst days of their lives have the best possible chance at recovery. Truly remarkable people doing extraordinary work.

🧡 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐋𝐨𝐝𝐠𝐞 – From food security and school supplies to cultural programming, assistance with status cards, and an incredible social enterprise (if you know, you know!), we learned about the remarkable diversity of programs and services supporting children, youth, families, and community members of all ages in the heart of Saskatoon.

💙 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐧 – We had the privilege of hearing from a self-advocate and leadership about the importance of advocating with and alongside people living with intellectual disabilities. We also learned that more than 1,300 students in Saskatchewan were denied access to full-time education this past year, largely due to insufficient resources. A powerful reminder that while we have made progress, there is still much work to do.

A heartfelt thank you to STARS, White Buffalo Youth Lodge, and Inclusion Saskatchewan for welcoming us, sharing your stories, and reminding us why this work matters.

And to our Board members, thank you for your curiosity, thoughtful questions, and commitment to learning more about the organizations in our community.
There is still much work ahead, but there is also so much good happening all around us. And that is something worth celebrating! 💚

This Thanksgiving, we’re reflecting on the many ways gratitude, generosity and community bring us together. We recognize that we are grateful guests on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis, lands with deep histories, cultures and longstanding traditions of caring for one another and for the land.

As we celebrate the harvest and gather with family, friends and community, may we remember the importance of relationships, reciprocity and sharing with those around us. Wishing you a Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, connection and care for one another 🧡

Legacy, for me, is about the small things we choose to do while we are here.

If I had a million dollars, I would support children’s camps, programs, and charities that create happy, meaningful experiences for kids and help them feel connected and supported.

Maybe one day I will have that kind of money. Until then, I try to support the causes I care about in the ways I can — with my time, my energy, and by getting involved. This summer, for example, I volunteered at a Ukrainian children’s camp and at the Kids’ Corner during Ukrainian Day in the Park. I often say that I live for children’s smiles. Seeing kids happy, excited, laughing, and enjoying themselves is one of the most rewarding things for me.

I don’t think we need to wait until we have a million dollars to make a difference. We can give a few hours of our time. We can volunteer. We can donate what we are able to. We can show up, share kindness, or simply be there for someone when they need it.

Our Many Voices Together Impact Trade Show & Film Fest was an incredibly heartarming event for community connection. We received so many beautiful stories of impact happening in Saskatoon.

Through reconciliation we keep learning, even when the truth is difficult to hear.

We have a responsibility to make space for Indigenous voices and experiences, to listen with care, and to look honestly at the history that continues to shape our communities today.

And, reconciliation is also about what we do with what we learn.

It can be found in the relationships we build, the conversations we have, the stories we choose to listen to, and the steps we take to create communities where everyone can feel a sense of belonging, safety and respect.
Yesterday, our team took time to pause, listen and learn. And today, we keep moving forward.

𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘂𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟰, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.

This 4-month program helps non-profit teams diversify revenue, build financial resilience, and think boldly about what’s possible. With expert coaching, peer learning, and tools you can use right away, this is your chance to break free from the cycle of scarcity.
