Tammy Van Lambalgen, @oranocanada’s Executive Vice President (EVP) & Chief Corporate Officer, has been with Orano for nearly 25 years, stepping into her current role as EVP in February 2026. Throughout her career, she’s valued the opportunity to continually grow, take on new challenges, and build a meaningful career. Her experience in the mining industry includes a long tenure on the SMA Board and a term as Chair. She is proud to be part of the mining and nuclear sectors and their role in providing reliable, low-carbon energy.

Tammy has been proud to see more women taking on diverse roles and leadership positions across the industry, creating opportunities to contribute, grow, and bring diverse perspectives to decision-making. This Women’s History Month, she celebrates the women who were trailblazers and those today who continue to strengthen the industry.

“I want to recognize the women who came before us, who challenged expectations and opened doors, as well as the women today who continue to strengthen our workplaces and communities.”

Earlier this week, SMA's Minerals Connected Program was excited to host our MAP (Minerals and Products) event in Prince Albert and the surrounding area!

Nearly 350 Grade 7 students participated in hands-on activities that brought Saskatchewan's mining industry to life, exploring everything from mineral exploration and mine development to closure and reclamation.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped guide students through each activity. Your time, energy, and enthusiasm made this experience both engaging and memorable for the next generation of learners.

We're also grateful to our event partners, PAGC Urban Services and SITAG, for their support in helping make this event possible.

Together, we're helping students discover the people, processes, and opportunities that drive Saskatchewan's mining industry.

Desirae is a Journeyperson Instrumentation Technologist at @mosaicincanada’s Esterhazy K1 operation, where she works with the instrumentation team to maintain and troubleshoot the systems and equipment that help keep the mine operating safely and efficiently.

Desirae began her career path at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Moose Jaw, where she studied Instrumentation Engineering Technology. During her schooling, she completed a co-operative education term with the Mosaic K1 Instrumentation crew, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the mining industry.

After graduating in 2015, Desirae joined Mosaic full time and has worked with the same K1 instrumentation crew ever since. Over the years, she has built strong technical expertise while contributing to the safe and reliable operation of the site. She values the opportunities for continuous learning, problem-solving, and collaboration that come with working in mining.

As a woman working in a traditionally male-dominated field, Desirae encourages young women to consider careers in mining and skilled trades.

Her advice is: “Don’t be afraid to step into an industry where you don’t see many women. It’s a great opportunity to learn and grow.”

She believes the industry offers rewarding career opportunities, valuable experiences, and the chance to build a successful future while working alongside supportive teams.

Every Child Matters 🧡

Today, we recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We honour residential school Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools on Indigenous families and communities across Canada.

As Saskatchewan's mining industry continues to work alongside Indigenous communities throughout the province, we are reminded of the importance of listening, learning, and building relationships grounded in respect and understanding.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. Today, we encourage everyone to take time to learn, reflect, and support meaningful action toward a more inclusive future.

Saskatchewan's metallic mineral operations employ 440 direct employees and 85 contractors.

The industry's impact reaches even further, with at least two mining supply and service jobs supported for every direct mining job.

Together, these jobs help support economic activity and communities across the province.

Did you know Saskatchewan produced more than 24% of the world's uranium in 2025?

Last year, Saskatchewan uranium mines produced 15,610 tonnes of uranium and generated $3.2 billion in sales.

That's a remarkable contribution from our province and a reflection of the people, communities, and industry that help make Saskatchewan a global leader in uranium production.

As demand for reliable, low-carbon energy continues to grow around the world, Saskatchewan is helping power the future while supporting jobs and economic growth here at home.

Mining plays key role in the Saskatchewan economy by providing gainful employment to many people throughout the province.

Potash companies operating in Saskatchewan paid $1.2 billion in total payroll to direct employees last year, which contributed to an annual salary for employees in the mining industry of $155,169 - 2.3 times higher than the average annual salary of Saskatchewan workers.

Did you know that mining is one of the safest industries in both Saskatchewan and in Canada?

In 2025, Saskatchewan's overall average Lost Time Injuries (LTI) per one million hours worked was about 8.3. In contrast, members in SMA's Metallic Minerals Section recorded an overall Lost Time Injury (LTI) rate of 3.4 per one million hours worked - much lower than the provincial average!

#GeoVenture2026 wrapped up today with two last activities - tours of the Saskatchewan Research Council's Rare Earth Processing Facility and Pipe Flow Technology Centre™, followed by a GeoRobotics workshop facilitated by Sask Code.

Over the last seven days, the teacher participants in this year's GeoVenture program have travelled from Castle Butte near the Saskatchewan-Montana border, all the way to the Athabasca Basin near the Saskatchewan-North West Territories border, visiting a variety of mining-related facilities, formations and mines along the way.

Scroll through our posts to check out some of the highlights of this year's program!

Are you a teacher that wants to get in on the action next year? Keep an eye on our page to be the first to know when applications for #GeoVenture2027 open.
