In honour of ADHD awareness month I wanted to share some vulnerability to help those who feel alone in it.

I didn’t realise how much of my life I had spent masking ADHD until I became a mum.

For years, I genuinely thought I just needed to try harder.

Be more organised.
Stop procrastinating.
Stop being so forgetful.
Stop being so emotional.
Stop getting overwhelmed by things that seemed so easy for everyone else.

I became really good at compensating. Making lists, setting reminders, creating routines and pushing myself harder all so I could look like I had it together.

But becoming a mum changed that.

Suddenly there were a million things to remember, constant interruptions, endless responsibilities and someone else’s needs to manage alongside my own.

And the things I had spent years learning to hide became so much harder to hide.

Getting diagnosed with ADHD as an adult made me look back at so many parts of my life differently.

The things I had called laziness.
The times I thought I was failing.
The emotional reactions I couldn’t understand.
The overwhelm.
The procrastination.
The feeling that I was constantly trying so hard just to keep up.

Maybe I wasn’t lazy.
Maybe I wasn’t too much.
Maybe I wasn’t failing.

Maybe my brain just needed to be understood, not constantly criticised by myself and others.

And I’m learning that ADHD isn’t only the struggles.

It’s also my creativity, my ideas, my passion, my ability to hyperfocus and the way my brain makes connections.

There are days I really struggle with my ADHD, and there are parts of it I genuinely love about myself.

Both can be true. 🧡

I wish I had understood this about myself sooner.

And if you’re a woman who has spent years wondering “why am I like this?” I hope you know you’re not alone.

What I’ve honestly learnt in my many years of training is that the end goal always appears to be the most important at the very beginning, but ultimately it’s what is gained in the progress that becomes the most vital.

When I competed and worked to get on stage it was the weight loss, the medals, the wins and the best condition.

After a baby it was getting my old body back, losing weight, bouncing back etc etc

But after all this time I’ve realised that my commitment to myself has been unmatched. I’ve trained on broken sleep, over weight and uncomfortable, when I lacked any form of motivation, had no time to fit it in and the consistency built resilience and made me realise that when im having hard days, I’ve shown myself I’m more than capable of what I want to achieve because I purely will never give up 🤏🏻
