Weekly creative writer’s group #scribetribe
Bring your pen/pencil and paper. We will have the prompt ✨
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
In week 91 we are revisiting the literary device of frame narrative. Frame narratives are stories within stories. A present-day voice introduces us to a tale, something older, deeper, and often inherited.

Think of a grandparent telling a legend around a fire. Or a letter found in an attic that reveals a hidden truth. The outer story creates context. The inner story reveals legacy.

This week, explore what it means to pass something down. What lessons are embedded in the tales your characters hear or tell? What systems of belief, caution, or identity are being preserved through the act of storytelling? by @saturdayscribe

In week 90, we are revisiting dramatic irony. Dramatic irony is where your character is unaware of a truth the audience already knows.

Write a scene where someone believes they’ve been called or chosen, but the reader can see they’re wrong.

Maybe the prophecy was misinterpreted.

Maybe the calling was never theirs to begin with.

Maybe they’re walking into something they don’t understand.

Let the disconnect create tension, and let us feel what’s coming before they do. by @saturdayscribe

In week 89, we are revisiting the literary device of negative space. Negative space is the part of the story that’s not filled in, but still says everything.

In world-building, this looks like:
• An empty frame where a portrait once hung
• A monument no one speaks of
• A name that was removed from the record

This week, let the gaps do the work. What isn’t said might be what needs to be written.

Prompt: Write a scene where someone stumbles upon a piece of a lost world. It could be physical (ruins, a journal, a language) or cultural (a forgotten ritual, a misremembered name).

Let the lack of context be the tension.

Let what’s missing carry weight. by @saturdayscribe

It's @TulsaTechWeek and we are back at it again to write the future.

THE PROMPT: Imagine it worked.

It is the future, and humanity found a way to use artificial intelligence responsibly. The technology did not replace what makes us human. Instead, it helped create something better: greater access, stronger communities, more time, new forms of creativity, solutions to problems we once thought were impossible, or possibilities we have yet to imagine.

Write a scene from that world.

Do not tell us that the future is better. Show us.

Follow a character through an ordinary moment that would have been impossible, difficult, or fundamentally different in our world today.

Maybe they are entering a classroom. Caring for someone they love. Making art. Starting a business. Getting home from work. Visiting a doctor. Growing food. Falling in love. Solving a neighborhood problem. Or doing something none of us has thought of yet.

Let the technology exist in the background. The human story belongs in the foreground.

And somewhere in your piece, leave us one clue about something people in our time chose to do differently that helped this future become possible.

Literary Device: Speculative Worldbuilding

Build your future through the details of everyday life. Instead of explaining how the world works, allow your setting, characters, dialogue, rituals, objects, and relationships to reveal what has changed.

The question isn't whether AI will shape our future.

The question for the page is: What future do we believe is worth building? by @saturdayscribe

The Saturday Scribe Shindig is your invitation to put down the pen and open your voice.

Bring something you’ve written and share it, or simply come listen to the poems, stories, scenes, and ideas being created within the Saturday Scribe community.

We’ll be gathering on this downtown Tulsa rooftop for an intimate evening, with light bites provided by @BuildinTulsa and the space generously provided by our friends at @thetulsaflyer. We’re grateful to both for helping us create room for writers to gather, share, and be heard. Our theme for the evening is aligned to @tulsatechweek and @weareparla but you’re invited to share whatever you have prepared.

You’re welcome to bring your own food and drinks too—and a blanket, cushion, or whatever helps you get comfortable.

Come share. Come listen. Come be inspired.

Space to share is limited!

What if the stars could whisper? What if summer had a heartbeat? This week at Saturday Scribe, we’re exploring personification—the literary device that gives human qualities to non-human things.

🌙 Personification transforms the world around us. The wind can sigh, the stars can dance, and the moon can watch over us like an old friend.

✨ Prompt: Write a piece where the stars and sky are living, breathing entities. Are they lovers, rivals, or fleeting travelers passing in the night? Use personification to bring them to life, shaping their voices, emotions, and desires. by @saturdayscribe

You sit across from an old friend. The air is thick with unspoken words. You reach for your coffee, but the silence between you lingers longer than the warmth in your hands.

This week at Saturday Scribe, we’re stepping into second-person narrative, where the reader becomes the character. This immersive perspective makes emotions sharper, the moment more immediate, and the connection—real or fading—feel that much closer.

📝 Prompt: Write a scene where two old friends meet at a café. What has changed between them? What remains unspoken? Use second-person narrative to pull the reader into the tension, nostalgia, or tenderness of the moment.

Join us as we bring stories closer than ever. Will your reunion be bittersweet, cathartic, or something else entirely? by @saturdayscribe

This week, we invite you to explore the power of legacy through an object passed from one person to another.

Look around the coffee shop you've chosen to write at and identify an object that could become the subject of your piece. A watch. A recipe card. A coffee mug. A photograph. A key. Something ordinary that might carry an extraordinary history.

Who did it belong to first? Why was it kept? What does it represent now? How has its meaning changed as it has moved between hands, homes, or generations?

Your story should uncover the memories, unspoken truths, or hidden strength carried within the object.

What stories do the things we keep hold long after we're gone?

Literary Device Challenge: Symbolism
Let the object represent something larger than itself. Pay attention to how its meaning changes depending on who holds it, what they know about its history, and what they choose to do with it.

Let's write and find out.

Drop your thoughts in the comments: Where would be the perfect place to sit down and write this prompt? by @saturdayscribe

We are in week 84 of consistent creative writing in community. This week, we are inviting you to explore the five senses.

Prompt: Describe an object, person, or scene that captures the depth and essence of the darkest hue—without using the word “black.”

Engage all five senses: What does it look like? How does it feel? What does it sound like—yes, sound? What does it smell like? And, if it could be tasted, what would it taste like?

Challenge yourself to move beyond familiar color comparisons. Use vivid sensory details, metaphor, texture, temperature, mood, and memory to immerse the reader in the experience without ever naming the color. by @saturdayscribe

It’s week 83 at Saturday Scribe and we are taking a journey back to the beginning. Our very first Saturday Scribe session took place at @origincoffeeco_ and inspired this prompt.

This week, we are going to dust it off.
