Dr. Jaya Thakur, a doctor and social worker, watched girls drop out of school due to lack of pads, clean toilets, and basic awareness — so she filed a petition under Article 32.
On 30th January 2026, the Supreme Court ruled: menstrual health is part of the fundamental Right to Life and Dignity under Article 21. Free sanitary pads, gender-segregated toilets, and MHM facilities are now mandatory in schools nationwide.
This isn't policy. It's a constitutional right.

Download ![One year of litigation has taught me things no one ever told me.🫠
When I started, I thought becoming a better lawyer meant reading more judgments, knowing more sections, and making stronger arguments.
I was only partly right.
This year taught me that clients don't stay because you know every answer.
They stay because you listen, communicate honestly, and make them feel that their case genuinely matters.
I learned that confidence isn't something you wake up with one day.
It comes from walking into court even when you're nervous, taking every opportunity to argue, making mistakes, and showing up again the next morning.
I learned that networking isn't about knowing the most people.
It's about building real relationships, being respectful, staying in touch, and letting your work speak for you.
And then there's patience.
No one tells you how much waiting is a part of litigation. Waiting for your matter to be called. Waiting through adjournments. Waiting for the final outcome.
At first, it feels frustrating.
Eventually, you realise that patience isn't just a virtue in litigation. It's a skill you develop along the way.
One year isn't a long time.
But it's been long enough to remind me that being a good lawyer is about much more than just knowing the law.
And that's probably the most valuable lesson I've learned so far.✨️
