Just a Lil lifestyle content for you... in our bbq snob opinion, this is the best bbq joint in Socal... so far. Everything is good here, everything. And that's super rare to find. If you are in Miramar, San Diego, definitely check out @abbeysrealtexasbbq - it blows my mind every time and I always get enough food to justify the 2 hour drive! I dream about their burnt ends. Let's see if my leftovers last the night. 😆 🤣 😂

Sometimes you just get caught up in the rhythm of life, taking it moment by moment, pushing through the trials and travails, burying yourself in the mundane. That's been my journey, for months and months I've been pretty injured and battling doubt and insecurities about myself and where I belong in this sport. My love for this sport will never fade but it's a weird transitional space for me as I move away from competition to focusing on coaching kinda sooner than I originally intended.

That's not to say I won't ever compete again, I love the battleground on the mats and can never see myself giving that up completely. But it's gonna be a long recovery for me and the big goals I had at the beginning of this year are definitely not something I can even consider right now.

All that to say, this promotion to brown really came out of nowhere for me, and it rocked me to my core. I trust the process and it couldn't honestly have come at a better time. Sometimes you get what you need exactly when you need it - even if you weren't aware that you needed it in the first place.

I'm honored to be an upper belt under @ultrazoid10p and to be promoted alongside so many of my teammates (#brownbeltarmy) but especially alongside my belt sister - @gremlin.10p . Our trajectory in this sport continues to parallel each other and I find it poetically beautiful.

I want to thank my teammates at @10thplanetoceanside and @escondidocombatacademy for their support and friendships, and look forward to all the battles they will saving for me when I return to rolls. 😆

Also special S/O to my partner in crime @richbish10p who simultaneously keeps me honest and focused while still being my biggest fan. Sorry not sorry we're the same rank now and you can't beat me up. 🤭

Sometimes you're an emotional basketcase for days and then you realize it's Father's Day weekend. It never stops being just a little raw of a holiday for me.

Anyway, here are some pics of the father figures I had in my life. Both are long gone now and I miss them terribly. Love you Daddy and Pappy.

We've always made our own way in life and nothing really has changed. Even though things haven't been perfect lately (I'm facing possible surgery on my shoulder, and a minimum of 3 months of rehab or longer, with no rolls allowed 😞 ), I personally am still doing my best to find joy in the mundane, the beauty of structure and purpose. I'm doing what I love, and opportunities keep arriving. Basically, life goes on. And I'm thankful for what I have/what we have, as we continue to expand our martial arts development and move more and more into coaching/gym ops. Both of us have exciting news coming and expanded roles on the horizon. We make our own destiny and we couldn't be more excited about it.

I didn't get a chance to go into the house I spent every summer of my childhood in, to say goodbye and feel the emotions I wanted to feel, since apparently someone decided the estate getting secured was more important. And that really hurt my heart. But we do what we can, and I was able to take these pictures the last time I visited her. I guess I knew then deep down that was the last time I would get to see her, to experience the magical place that was their house. To me, they represented the purest, most innocent part of my childhood. Coming up and spending my summers with them, learning to live a simple, but incredible meaningful life, to be plugged in with a community of people who all looked out for each other, that shaped who I became as a person. My Aunt (and Uncle) was a Saint in so many ways. I will miss her so very badly. I know everyone in that community will as well. I don't think I have the words to describe completely how I'm feeling. Like maybe it also feels like a part of my childhood went with her? The last bit of pure, unadulterated happiness of simple and uncomplicated youth. I love you so much, Aunt Sis. Scenes from our two hour shark tank yesterday and featuring my oh so attractive try hard face. As everyone who trains with me knows, the killer tomato appears literally five minutes into hard training and then just stays.... for hours.

But I still feel blessed to have this life and this sport. I'm more in love with it then ever, even if my feelings have been complicated about it recently. I just get so jazzed seeing the army of bad@sses we are putting together over here. I'm super grateful to all the women in this class. I've never known such a supportive group, the laughter says it all, the clapping after every drill and roll, these women support each other so strongly, I've never seen anything like it. It makes me so happy and grateful every day to help them become well rounded, balanced athletes. 🥰
