Today is September 17th the conclusion of one year without my father, and as I conclude this year of grief - I have learned more than just how to move on. I have learned that I am capable and I am beyond resilient. I remember the day he passed, hearing the call on the radio of the firefighter standing next to me. I heard the very familiar ring from my father’s own radio and the announcement to the city that Stephen Scott was now gone. Silence rang and shortly after every station called in their condolences. He was wheeled out with a flag draped over him as the silence continued. We proceeded on an hour long drive with every fire station in the city put out of service to escort us along the way within their territory. I finally understood the love of the Fire Department that day. The love that kept my dad in the service over 30 years serving his community.

It was easy to search for solace in material things like the way he tended to his plants or the letters he packed in my lunch box. Ultimately, those were just small physical reminders of a love so strong it is unfathomable for me to describe. I lost my absolute best friend, but gained a perspective I could have never found should I have not been left alone on this earth. Love is the only concept prevalent before and after death. You are remembered by the love you pour into things. Whether you should choose to pour your love into other people, work, animals, hobbies; let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14 ❤️ by @savasscott
