This is the Giant Asian Mantis, Latin name 'Hierodula membranacea'. Yes, there are insect actors in the film! My favorite thing about shooting with praying mantises is that they are not afraid of anything. They’ll look right at the camera and don’t shy away from bright lights. Another feature which makes them a pleasure to wrangle is their commitment to predation. They track movement with their swiveling heads—basically an insect director's dream.

Nature is our most important resource, and teaching the youth about conservation is one of our most important tasks!

Savenature.org came to College Terrace Children's Center to teach our preschoolers about all about insects and how beneficial they are to our eco system. Thank you to @savenatureorg for educating and getting our little ones excited about our precious environment!

From their website:

SaveNature.Org is about inspiring action to save nature. They work to conserve biologically diverse ecosystems worldwide through Adoption Programs and Conservation Meters. They also educate and raise awareness for the importance of conservation through our Insect Discovery Lab. By partnering with like-minded organizations like schools, zoos, museums, science centers, businesses, and more, to ensure that fragile ecosystems are conserved for all future generations. taken in Palo Alto, California by @savenatureorg
