BIKING TO BUILD COMMUNITY 🚲🏍️🤝🏾

What started as an idea became REAL.

This wasn’t just about bikes — it was about bringing people together, creating a safe space, building relationships, and showing our young people what community can look like when we choose peace, purpose & unity.

Seeing everybody come out, enjoy themselves, and support the vision reminded me why we started this work in the first place.

Congratulations to Zaire Paige on earning your college degree. 👨🏽‍🎓🎉🎉

Let that sink in for a moment.

Seventeen years later, a man many people wrote off is standing here as a college graduate.

That’s worth celebrating.

The reason this story hits me so deeply is because I know how easily my life could have gone another direction.

I turned Crip at 12 years old.

At 12.

I wasn’t thinking about consequences.

I wasn’t thinking about prison.

I wasn’t thinking about purpose.

I was a kid trying to survive in a neighborhood that taught us survival long before it taught us healing.

By 16, I was sitting in Rikers Island facing 3-15 years in prison.

I’ve buried too many friends.

I’ve preached too many funerals.

I’ve stood with too many mothers whose hearts were shattered by the streets.

I’ve seen what happens when young men believe their story is already written.

That’s why this matters to me.

Because my life changed when Jesus stepped into it.

Not religion.

Not a program.

Not self-help.

Jesus.

He gave me a second chance when I didn’t deserve one.

That’s why I refuse to give up on people.

Because God never gave up on me.

When I look at Zaire, I don’t see a headline.

I don’t see a case.

I see a human being created in the image of God.

I see a father.

I see a son.

I see a man who, despite spending the last 17 years incarcerated, chose growth over bitterness, education over excuses, and purpose over despair.

To every Crip, Blood, GD, Folk, Latin King, or young brother watching this:

Don’t let anybody convince you that your life is over.

Don’t let your environment define you.

Don’t let your worst day become your identity.

And don’t ever believe that God can’t reach you.

Because He reached me.

Today I celebrate perseverance.

I celebrate growth.

I celebrate education.

I celebrate every grandmother that kept praying.

Every mother that kept believing.

Every friend that kept showing up.

And every person who refuses to quit on somebody that the world has already counted out.

Congratulations, Za.

Sometimes you gotta leave the city, put the phone down, and get in the water.

Life is a lot like rafting—there will be twists, turns, rough currents, and unexpected drops. The key is to keep paddling.

This trip reminded me that growth happens when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone.
