Post via @wildlifesos Let's turn the spotlight on the majestic big cat species — tigers, to celebrate International Tiger Day.

🐯 Tigers apex predators and umbrella species of their habitats.
🐯 India is home to over 70 percent of the global population of tigers.
🐯 Nearly 95% of the population that inhabited Earth has been lost.
🐯 Tigers derivatives such as skin, claws, and bones are used in traditional medicine.
🐯 The species is also threatened due to habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, commercial use, and depletion of prey base.

Wildlife SOS’ anti-poaching unit- ‘Forest Watch’ assists enforcement agencies to curb wildlife crimes by relaying intelligence about wildlife trafficking and conducting seizures.

Heres some good news by @the_happy_broadcast to end the year!

Here’s a list of the best animal welfare and conservation successes to help spread a little cheer as 2021 comes to a close.

Animal welfare is important because there are so many animals around the world suffering from being used for entertainment, food, medicine, fashion, scientific advancement, and as exotic pets. Every animal deserves to have a good life.

Caring about animals is part of what makes us better people. It may be easier not to think about how humans cause suffering to animals, but we should make an effort to support better practices. Supporting ethical producers shows that there is a demand for cruelty-free products.

@shizzyswildcatrescue 🚨Urgent Help Needed! Conservation and animal protection groups are offering a combined $26,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the deliberate poisoning and killing of eight #graywolves in eastern #Oregon earlier this year. 💔🐺

Tragically, on February 9th, Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division Troopers found the five members of the Catherine #wolf pack, three male and two female, dead at a location southeast of #MountHarris in #UnionCounty. On March 11th, troopers detected a mortality signal in the same location and found a slain wolf; a radio-collared female that had dispersed from the Keating pack.

Two more collared #wolves were subsequently found dead in Union County. In April, an adult male wolf from the Five Points pack was discovered west of #Elgin, and in July, a young female wolf from the #ClarkCreek pack was found northeast of #LaGrande.💔

🚨Anyone with information about this case should contact the Oregon State Police (@OSPsocial) Tip Line at 📞 (800) 452-7888 or E-Mail: TIP@state.or.us. Callers may remain anonymous.

@worldanimalnews_ This week, the National Assembly in #France adopted an extensive animal welfare bill that has been under consideration for more than a year. 🙏

Once signed into law by President @EmmanuelMacron, the breeding of #minks and many other species of wildlife killed for their fur will be immediately banned throughout France. 🚫🐇

Also, within two years, the new law will put an end to the commercial exploitation of wild animals, “by prohibiting their acquisition and reproduction.” Performances of animals such as #lions, #tigers, and #bears, will be eliminated from traveling #circuses within seven years. 🐅

The captivity of #dolphins in dolphinariums will also cease to exist within five years. 🐬

Domestic animals such as puppies and kittens will no longer be allowed to be sold in pet stores as of January 1, 2024. 🐕🚫🐈

@worldanimalnews_ 🚨🚨🚨URGENT!!! HELP NEEDED TO FIND CALLOUS HUNTER WHO ILLEGALLY KILLED LONE COLLARED FEMALE WOLF IN MINNESOTA! 💔🐺

As per @voyageurswolfproject, five days ago, Wolf W0C was illegally shot and killed in #Minnesota. The organization reached her body very shortly after she was killed. Given the technological advances in GPS-collars, they know the exact time—and obviously location—when W0C was killed. 💔

W0C was killed within three days of deer hunting opener (first day of deer hunting season), which was last Saturday. What a coincidence! Actually it isn't. Most wolves that have been illegally killed are killed within the first 2-3 days of the deer hunting season.

@voyageurswolfproject has studied W0C since 2019 when they first collared her as a yearling pack member in the Sheep Ranch Pack. When the Sheep Ranch Pack dissolved in late 2019, W0C hit the road as a lone wolf but her collar dropped off. Six months later, they lost contact with her.

Much to their amazement, in Spring 2021, W0C showed up on a camera in the Huron Pack territory. Additional footage revealed that she became a subordinate member of the Huron Pack.

The organization collared W0C again in late April of this year (note: her original ID/ear-tags were V082 but they changed them in April). She remained part of the Huron Pack until August when the Huron Pack also dissolved, at which point she became a lone wolf again.

They currently cannot provide anymore information on W0C’s death at this point as it is an open investigation. Anyone with information regarding this wolf’s death is asked to call the DNR Turn-in-Poachers (TIP) line at 📞1-800-652-9093.

Post by @shizzyswildcatrescue If you EVER wondered if your voice mattered or made a difference let me be clear IT DOES!

In the biggest news so far this year for #wolf protection in the United States, a court in #Wisconsin issued an injunction last week requiring that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (@WI_DNR) temporarily halt the wolf trophy hunt that was scheduled to begin on November 6th. 🙏🐺

According to @ProjectCoyoteOrg, which was one of the organizations that had filed a legal action against the DNR calling for the injunction, Dane County Judge Jacob Frost ordered the DNR to temporarily set the wolf quota at zero and to issue zero licenses allowing hunters to kill wolves. While this is a positive move, Frost also noted that the injunction was in place only until the rule was updated.

Frost's decision to push the hunt rested on his concern that the DNR violated the Wisconsin Constitution by failing to finalize formal rules and follow its own policies related to the wolf hunt. Instead, the DNR has been relying on an "emergency rule" since 2012.

@wwf_tigers Camera traps recently recorded this incredible tiger in the Russian Far East!

Tiger numbers in this national park were estimated to be as low as 9-10 individuals in 2012 but in a remarkable come back they have since tripled 🐯🐯🐯 Head to our (@wwf_tigers) story to find out how!

@wwf_tigers Swipe to discover the differences between captive and wild tigers ➡️🐯

Outside of legitimate zoos more than 13,000 tigers are estimated to be kept in captivity. Yet there are only around 3,900 tigers left in the wild.

#TX2 #wwf #tiger #tigers

Tigers are an unfortunately common exotic pet in the USA and UAE, where they are subject to cramped conditions that are unable to meet their natural requirements. Having a pet tiger has long been seen as a status symbol, and many pet tigers are subject to stressful conditions. Many of these pets end up surrendered to legitimate zoos and sanctuaries as the owners realise they are expensive and hard to maintain pets. Large exotic animals are not suitable to be kept as pets, as captive animals have basic care requirements beyond those available by private ownership. by @savethetiger

@conservewildcats Although the stereotypic image of tigers usually places them in a steamy Indian jungle, the species occupies diverse habitats across a wide range of latitudes.
.
The Amur tiger is the northernmost, and probably faces the most severe environmental constraints surviving at the edge of the species’ distribution. The Sumatran is the southernmost and suffers from habitat loss and poaching activities.
.
Tigers showcase incredible behavioural and physiological plasticity but cannot adapt to the intense anthropogenic threats we are placing on them. Please donate today to directly fund tiger conservation and secure the future of this incredible species. Link in bio!
