Congratulations to @alysciacunningham and @herhousemedia! DOUEN was fantastic and I felt all the things while watching — mostly disturbed! 😳🫣😆 I also laughed quite a bit. But most of all, from the opening scene to the closing credits, I felt completely transported, as though the film opened a window into a culture and a world I was grateful to experience, even if only for a moment. Really, that feeling hit me from the time I walked into the @afisilvertheatre. You know how to host a premiere screening! Congrats again — @douenmovie is everything. 🤩🎞️ by @savigon2374

The latest Keep It Short Sundays (but on a Friday) Short Film
Event was a great way to kick off the weekend. Excellent slate of films, including #Freudian by @askaveryk. @blex_media is truly building something special with its community screening events in DC. Looking forward to the next one! 🎞️ by @savigon2374

With many thanks to DC/DOX Film Festival and LightReel Film Fest for hosting tonight’s screening in GTown, what a privilege to experience Once Upon a Time in Harlem — an extraordinary gift of history! The way William Greaves captured the conversations and reflections of luminaries of the Harlem Renaissance made me feel like I was in the room, right there at the gathering at Duke Ellington’s former Harlem townhouse! I learned so much and left with an even deeper appreciation for the brilliance of these remarkable artists and thinkers. It was also inspiring to hear producer Liani Greaves share the story of bringing this film to life alongside her father, David Greaves, realizing the vision her grandfather had imagined. Three generations of filmmakers working across time to preserve and share an invaluable piece of history — simply incredible.

Had so much fun at Sasha Bruce Youthwork’s annual fall service project, a.k.a. Tulipalooza, that I forgot to get a picture of myself! But I did snap pics of a couple of teams of thoughtful and lovely ladies — one from @univofmaryland and one from @howard1867 (whose collective reaction to my being a Hampton alum was exactly as you’d expect 😭), as well as a couple of Cutie Patooties! 🥹 As always, great to see SBY’s partnership with #GuerrillaGardenersOfDC continue to thrive! And nothing short of inspiring to see SBY’s caring neighbors, from the Hill and beyond, return year after year to support the beautification efforts at The House, DC’s only dedicated shelter for minors experiencing homelessness, or otherwise requiring emergency shelter. Cannot wait to see the array of tulips that will be in full bloom this spring as a consequence of yesterday’s community efforts. 💐💖🌷🙏🏾 @sashabruceyouth by @savigon2374

Welp, didn’t make it to church today (😫), but I did make it to the DMV Premiere of God With Us last night (☺️). It hits theaters November 13th! And as one of the film’s Executive Producers, Michelle Duffie, said right before the screening, “When we buy tickets, Hollywood recognizes us as viable.” So you know what to do! @godwithusmovie @michelleduffie #SeeItInTheaters by @savigon2374

Can’t believe it’s already been a week since it kicked off, but I had such a great time volunteering at the Middleburg Film Festival — catching up with old friends, making new ones, and enjoying some wonderful films along the way. Didn’t get to everything on my list (so many films, so little time), but I did catch some great ones, including La Bola Negra, Paper Tiger, and Behemoth. Grateful for the films, the conversations, the connections, and the opportunity to be part of such a special festival. 🎥🏇🏽🎞️ @middleburgfilm by @savigon2374

Good time last week at the celebration of the release of #BELOW featuring creator @Jesse.McKeown and star @willowkean, in conversation with Roxana.z.Hadadi from Vulture, at the Canadian Embassy in DC. Many thanks to @wifvdc, @netflix, @netflixca, @canadainusa 🎞️🇨🇦🎥🧊 by @savigon2374

💖🎬 THE FUTURE IS INDEED HERE—and it is BRIGHT!

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Cultural Connections Film Festival for making space for the next generation of filmmakers and giving our Black Girls Film Camp alums the opportunity to share their stories! ✨

Lamonia, thank you for your generosity and for giving our filmmakers a full half hour for their Q&A following the screenings. That time allowed the girls to do more than discuss their films—it gave them the opportunity to share the heart, vision, and lived experiences behind the powerful stories they conceived. What a beautiful reminder of why representation matters and what becomes possible when young creatives have the tools, mentorship, and space to tell their own stories!

Thank you to everyone in attendance who poured encouragement, wisdom, and love into our girls, with special appreciation for Kayla Harley, Monda Webb, and Terra Renee, whose inspiring voices are featured in this video. Your words matter, and we’re grateful for the care you’ve shown the next generation of storytellers. 🎥
