Working on some new patterned plywood panels. These are about 4” x 7” in size. Thanks to @almfab for the patterns. They will likely end up as small boxes. These are the panels with mahogany accents, will start on ones with walnut next. Now on to glue up. #patternedplywood by @sawdustingww

My hexagonal boxes are done. There are 9 in total, with 6 different patterned plywood designs. Two boxes are walnut with sapwood from a walnut board as splines. The other boxes are cherry with cherry or maple splines. The inside liners are maple, cherry or mahogany. Let’s just say I used up a bunch of hardwood scraps. Thanks to @almfab for the plywood pattern ideas. It was fun to try new patterns and to make boxes in a new shape. Next up will probably be some small cabinets I have been thinking about. Finally able to post the finished kumiko panel. Hard to see in the pictures but there is fabric behind the kumiko. I wanted to use the same fabric as the previous panel and could not find it. I finally found a different fabric to use and then I could go ahead and put it in the frame and hang it up. The pattern is from @mekwoodworks excellent book about kumiko. I have made three from the book so far and will certainly be trying more in the future. #woodworking #kumiko by @sawdustingww

I have once again given in to the call of patterned plywood. This time I made 6 different hexagon patterns from @almfab I used three 12”x12” squares of 3/4” Baltic birch. It yielded enough to make a top and bottom for 9 small hexagonal shaped boxes. Once I finish them up I will be sure to post them. #patternply #patternplywood by @sawdustingww

I made another kumiko panel, and in the center, trying a pattern I had not done before. I got the pattern from #mekwoodworks book about kumiko. You can see his from the book, and mine side by side in the second picture. I have made a frame for this to match the previous panel but haven’t been able to find more of the same fabric I used behind the kumiko. As soon as I find some, I will do the final assembly and post a new picture. Next up will be some patterned plywood boxes. #kumiko #woodworkingproject by @sawdustingww

Over the holiday weekend I was able to finish up my kumiko project. I followed a pattern in Matt Kenney’s book The Art of Kumiko. I am pleased with how it came out and pondering what to try next. So many patterns to try. #woodworking #mekwoodworks by @sawdustingww

After finishing my bookshelves, I really wanted a project that didn’t involve working on the floor or over my head. Also one that didn’t involve a flight of stairs for every cut. Kumiko wins on all of these. This past weekend I got to spend some time on it and made good progress. Still need to fill in the open sections and then build a frame. I used my kumiko sled that I made based on #mekwoodworks book about kumiko that I really like. I may try to build the frame he also describes in his book. Hopefully I can get to that this coming weekend. by @sawdustingww

The bookshelves are complete and just about full. Probably need to start thinking about making more. That’s a thing about books. They multiply. The colors of the trim, walls, and shelves, look wonderful. I am really pleased with how it came out. Thanks to Amy Wax for the color choices, so much nicer than I would ever have made myself. Had everything painted this past week. Really pleased with the colors and the overall look. The shelves for the bookcases are still on the floor so the paint can fully cure before I start putting books on them. Building the fireplace mantel is nearly completed. I have some fiddly bits of trim to go, and to tie it in the with baseboard. Nearly there. by @sawdustingww

I am closing in on the final parts of my living room project. The bookshelves are essentially done, but for some sanding and paint. The trim work likewise needs sanding and paint. The last open task was building the fireplace mantel. I made some good progress on it, and like how it is coming out so far. by @sawdustingww

Finally making some visible progress. The shelves are all made, and sanded. The doors have been made, and now the drawer fronts are also built. After waiting on back ordered hinges, I actually got all the drawer fonts installed and added the knobs. The doors are all mounted but will need more “fitting” before the knobs. Then everything comes back apart to be painted, before re-installing a final time. One mistake was building the doors before the hinges arrived, only to find out the gap they leave is smaller than anticipated, so I have more work to do now to get the gaps to where I want them. Hopefully next weekend I can manage that. #diybookshelf #weekendwoodworker by @sawdustingww
