🏈💙💛 A MOMENT IN SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY HISTORY… AND A FATHER’S LEGACY! 💛💙🏈
Some plays become legendary. Some athletes become unforgettable. And some moments become a part of a family’s legacy forever!
Today, I’m taking a moment to celebrate my our dad, James Emery Jr., who played football for Southern University under the legendary Coach A.W. Mumford! 💙💛
During a game against Prairie View A&M, Daddy made a play that Southern fans could be proud of! He caught a pass coming from behind, tucked the football in, and took it across the field to score a TOUCHDOWN! 🏈🙌🏾
The 1959 Southern University yearbook captured the moment with this caption:
“Emery received pass from the rear to score touchdown against Prairie View.”
And the rest is history! Southern University went on to win the championship in 1959! 🏆🐆💙💛
As I look at this original photograph and reflect on those words printed in that 1959 SU yearbook, I’m reminded that history isn’t just found in books. Sometimes, it’s found in a photograph, a remarkable play, and the legacy of someone you’re blessed to call Daddy or at minimum for some a member of your family.
I am so proud to share this piece of Southern University’s rich athletic history and my family’s story. Our dad was a proud part of a generation of student-athletes who helped build the tradition, pride, and championship spirit that Jaguars continue to celebrate today.
He caught the pass. He made the play. He scored the touchdown. And he left a legacy! 💙💛🏈
Once a Jaguar, ALWAYS a Jaguar! 🐆
