Berlin!! Are you there?
I’ll be in Berlin from Oct 30 to Nov 2 and I’m really looking forward to soaking up some purple funk energy while I’m there.

One of the highlights will be catching the funk brothers SAULTS and their special Prince tribute show at Prachtwerk on Nov 1.

If there are any purple funk fans in Berlin who’d like to meet up for a catch-up, talk music, funk, Prince, soul or just hang out — send me a PM. Would be great to connect!

A rare and deeply personal conversation with Judith Hill. 💜

We talk about identity, vulnerability, fame, mental health and the healing power of music — as well as Prince, their creative relationship at Paisley Park and the joy of making Back in Time.

Recorded just after the Covid lockdowns, this conversation has a special tone — open, reflective and personal.

💜 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗦 — 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥

It’s been quite a week in the Prince world. Reviews, heated discussions, questions about the Estate — and, of course, the controversy surrounding “Calabama” and the newly added horns.

After reviewing 𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 on 𝗦𝗮𝘆 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁, I wanted to zoom out. What is this release really trying to be? Where should the line be drawn between restoring Prince’s Vault and actually adding to it? And most importantly — how do we protect trust while keeping this extraordinary archive alive?

I also share a few ideas for the future: fan-curated releases, Celebration listening sessions, Deluxe projects and even an annual Prince live series.

This doesn’t have to be 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝘃𝘀. 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲. Criticism isn’t hate, and supporting those managing Prince’s legacy doesn’t mean we should stop asking questions.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁. 💜

Swipe through to read — and I’d love to hear where you land after this particular week.

TIMELESS — ONE WEEK LATER

It’s been quite a week in the Prince world.

Reviews, heated discussions, questions about the Estate — and, of course, the controversy surrounding “Calabama” and the revelation that new horns were added to a Prince recording from 2003.

After reviewing Timeless on Say What, I felt I needed to return to it — not to review the album all over again, but to zoom out a little.

What exactly is Timeless trying to be? Why are Prince fans sometimes so difficult to satisfy? Where should the line be drawn between restoring Prince’s Vault and actually adding to it? And perhaps most importantly: how do we protect trust while still allowing this extraordinary archive to live?

I also offer a few ideas of my own for the future — fan-curated releases, Celebration listening sessions, Deluxe projects and even an annual Prince live series.

I don’t think this needs to be fans versus the Estate. Criticism isn’t hate, and supporting the people managing Prince’s legacy doesn’t mean we should stop asking questions.

Transparency builds trust.

My longer reflection, Timeless, One Week Later — The Music, the Noise and the Question of Trust, is available as a PDF below.

Would love to hear where you land after this particular week. 💜

Love 4 One Another.

💜 Rest in Peace, David Z (David Rivkin) 1948–2026
Today, we say goodbye to one of the true architects of the Minneapolis Sound.
David Z wasn't just an extraordinary producer and engineer—he was a creative force whose influence can be heard across decades of music. He helped a young Prince record the demo that led to his Warner Bros. deal, engineered several of Prince's early recordings, contributed to classics like "Kiss", and played a vital role in shaping the sound of Minneapolis.
His remarkable career also included work with Lipps Inc. (Funkytown), The Family, Sheila E., Jody Watley, Fine Young Cannibals (She Drives Me Crazy), Etta James, Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, Billy Idol, Al Green, and many more. His work earned him a Grammy Award and the respect of musicians and producers around the world.
Music ran deep in the Rivkin family. David's younger brother, Bobby Z, became the drummer for Prince & The Revolution, while David helped shape the sound behind the scenes as one of the Minneapolis Sound's most influential producers and engineers.
I had the privilege of meeting David in Minneapolis in 2017. Despite his incredible résumé and legendary status, he was warm, humble, approachable, and generous with his time. It was one of those meetings that stays with you, and I'm truly grateful I had the opportunity to meet him.
David Z's legacy extends far beyond the records he produced. He helped define a sound that continues to inspire musicians, producers, and music lovers across generations.
Thank you for everything, David.
Rest in peace. 💜 by @saywhatcast
