Architecture that makes us happy again :)

Inspired by the geometry of ice, the GLACIER house explores the playful side of architecture. A composition of coloured glass, sharp geometries and shifting reflections, where Alpine glaciers become part of the architecture itself.

I’m 25, arriving in architecture at a strange moment. Old enough to have been taught the mythology of the architect as author, young enough to watch that mythology lose its hold. We were raised on singular gestures, icons, signatures, the promise that building something new was already a form of progress. At the same time, architecture schools are asking us to unlearn part of that instinct, to listen before drawing, to preserve before replacing and to understand that every intervention consumes something. So at this societal turning point, the idea of a typical career path, of simply building to make the world better, doesn’t feel so righteous anymore. Is it still possible to build in a way that is honest to how I feel ? If the world feels fractured culturally, environmentally, emotionally, maybe architecture shouldn’t pretend it is intact. How do we carry the feeling of this moment into a building? I want buildings that hold the breach instead of hiding it. Less polish, less erasure, more raw beauty, more respect for what was already there, while still carrying the monumental gesture that can create awe, reverence and an immediate understanding of a place. Architecture that makes us feel small in front of a landscape and proud of what we have inherited, that protects what is still worth carrying forward and leaves something behind worth being in awe of.

Something that gives form to the emotions we keep trying to deny and becomes an honest trace of where we are in our collective consciousness. by @sba_architects

Black Stone Quarry Museum

Retributive architecture may be understood as an approach in which a project establishes a reciprocal relationship with the territory from which it draws its resources, identity and value. Architecture becomes a means of redistributing part of that value through the preservation of landscapes, the transmission of local knowledge and skills, the creation of employment, the regeneration of ecosystems, and the support of cultural and public infrastructure.

In the case of the Black Stone Quarry Museum, the architecture generates value through tourism and cultural activity, while part of that value is reinvested into the quarry landscape and other overlooked sites. The project therefore creates a reciprocal relationship: the territory makes the architecture possible, and the architecture contributes to sustaining the territory. by @sba_architects

My favorite thing about architecture is that it’s so all-encompassing. You can’t really go through life without finding architecture in everything. by @sba_architects

My master’s thesis in architecture explored contemporary obsolescence and the difficulty of designing buildings that can truly endure. It gradually led me to a broader question: what makes something beautiful and valuable enough to be preserved and transmitted from one generation to the next?

From architecture to fashion, this essay explores our relationship with time, longevity and savoir-faire—and what it means to create lasting value in the 21st century. by @sba_architects

Pamir Mountains, Xinjiang, China

The landscape already holds the project within it. In its scale, its silence, its lines and changing light. The architecture simply gives those qualities a frame, making them more present without ever trying to overpower them. by @sba_architects
