The West Coast Triple Plank once again brought together an incredible community of athletes, artists, environmental advocates, and outdoor enthusiasts for a weekend dedicated to board sports, connection, and conservation.
Founded in 2017 by Marie France Roy and Alicia Gilmour, the event continues to raise awareness and support for the protection and restoration of our precious coastlines while celebrating the sports and communities that make the West Coast so special.
From inspiring riding and good vibes to meaningful conversations and community connection, this year’s event was a reminder of the positive impact board sports can have both on and off the water.
A huge thank you to the organizers, volunteers, athletes, photographers, and everyone who helped make this event possible.

Three days of high-performance surfing went down at the 2026 Rip Curl Nationals & GromSearch in Tofino 🌊🔥 Cox Bay delivered clean, punchy conditions as Canada’s top surfers and rising groms battled it out across every division. Standout performances came from Teagan Sandvig, Ocea Green, Peter Devries, and many more, with airs, powerful turns, and critical maneuvers keeping the energy high all event long. An incredible showcase of the depth and future of Canadian surfing 🏄‍♂️ thanks again for the awesome shots @sailing_vahi taken in Cox Bay, Tofino, BC by @sbc_surf

This Mother’s Day, let’s protect the ocean.
Canada is one of the world’s highest producers of plastic waste per person, yet only a small percentage is actually recycled. The rest ends up where surfers, wildlife, and coastal communities live and connect.
And it goes deeper than what we can see.
Toxic chemicals found in plastics including PFAS, bisphenols, and phthalates are now linked to serious health issues and continue building up in our oceans, ecosystems, and bodies.
Meanwhile, global plastic production is projected to triple by 2060.
For surfers, this means more polluted coastlines, declining water quality, and damage to the places that shape our culture and connection to the ocean.
But change is possible.
Organizations like Surfrider Foundation Canada are pushing for stronger federal action:
♻️ Phasing out single-use plastics
🌎 Reducing toxic chemicals
🔄 Investing in refill & reuse systems
📢 Supporting a global treaty to cap plastic production

One of the biggest surf competitions in Canada, the Rip Curl National Championships, is where national champions are crowned and where many athletes are selected for the Canadian surf team. From there, surfers can go on to compete internationally, including events like the World Juniors and even pathways toward Olympic qualification.
The event takes place at Cox Bay, May 8-10th 2026 and draws both Canadian and international athletes, making it one of the premier surf events in the country.
In each heat, four surfers compete in the water for 20 minutes, catching as many waves as possible. Each wave is scored on a scale from 1 to 10, and only the top two surfers in each heat advance to the next round. @ripcurl_canada Also, huge thanks to Robby Benn @bcrobby for these awesome shots the spray looks incredible.
