No time like the present to share the beauty of this red-necked tanager (saíra military in Port.) seen in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro (Guapimirim & Nova Friburgo) on #octoberbigday2024 along with a host of Brazilian endemic birds (the rare grey-winged cotinga (saudade-de-asa-cinza) and wren-like Itatiaia spinetail (garrincha-chorona) are only found in this high-altitude RJ region) led by the finest bird guides in the business @irmaosmello_rio chez @casatukani and @sitiovirtuoso in great company.

Friends, I'm raising money for the birds, wildlife and people in Brazil's historic Coffee Valley (Vale do Café), a place that's very dear to me and yet is increasingly under attack by illegal poachers, El Niño & climate change. Please donate to the Birdfriendly Coffee Valley Project. Link in bio & below (entire proceeds go to the non-profit organizations in the Coffee Valley: Instituto Serra do Tangará in Piraí and Amigos das Aves de Barra do Piraí split 50/50):

Foi demais!! taken in Vale Do Café by @sbeltraony
