The Eastgate Clock early morning. In 1897, the intricate clock tower was commissioned to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee (marking her 60th year on the throne). Designed by famous local architect John Douglas, the clock mechanism was built by J.B. Joyce & Co. and officially unveiled in 1899 to mark the Queen’s 80th birthday. #chesteruk #cheshire #chester #eastgateclock #avata360 taken in Eastgate Clock by @sbjchester.uk

The Old Dee Bridge in Chester is the city’s oldest surviving bridge. Spanning the River Dee, it connects Lower Bridge Street and the historic Bridgegate with the neighborhood of Handbridge. Today, it is recognized as a Grade I listed building and a scheduled monument, serving as both a functional traffic corridor and a major focal point for visitors exploring Chester’s rich Roman and medieval history. The timber predecessors were routinely swept away by heavy floods and tides, a permanent stone replacement was commissioned. Much of the current bridge reflects a major red sandstone reconstruction ordered by Edward, the Black Prince, in 1357 and completed by 1387. #chesteruk #cheshire #chester #riverdee #bridge taken in Old Dee Bridge by @sbjchester.uk
