“My notebook is not made of paper — it’s clay. Each piece tells the story of exploration and curiosity. I walk through my local area where I live nearby the river, collecting pigments from clay beds, ashes from driftwood, and stories from fallen leaves and wildflowers. These nature treasures shape my glazes, my forms, my being.I collage them — not with glue, but with fire, water, and earth and my hands. My process is an ongoing dialogue between nature and material, where the experimental becomes the everyday. For my large floor vases, I sprayed an ash glaze made from Japanese knotweed, which I collected throughout the year wherever it popped up.Love how the soft texture complements the delicate, creamy blooms of the elderflower from my garden. It took testing, and taming, but this has officially become my absolute favorite glaze in the studio.I’m naming it golden glaze and it is incredibly layered. When the light hits the surface, you don’t just see a rich gold, you also catch beautiful, subtle green tones reflecting back. It feels completely alive.That unique green-gold magic comes straight from local nature 🌱 IJssel river pigmentsIt was definitely not an easy formula to develop and processing local pigments take time. The pinholes almost made me give up! The glow and depth on the tableware sets and vases makes every single failed test tile worth it for me.This collection (sets and one of a kinds) will be available again in my webshop soon. Vlieland - North Sea 🌊There is a moment on the boat, right before you arrive, when the salty sea air suddenly mixes with the warm scent of the pine trees. That smell of the trees is the instant I know I am back and It feels like a warm emotional embrace, like coming home to a lifetime of memories. This island is for me an inexhaustible source of inspiration and energy for my soul and my work. Vlieland has been our sanctuary for so long. I still remember the excitement of the boat crossings when the children were small. We brought them here year after year, watching them grow up against the backdrop of these wild dunes and quiet forests. The light here is mystical, fascinating, and completely unique. It shapes my way of working with nature, captures my heart, and brings back every beautiful memory. Poppies are a beautiful contradiction. They are paper-thin and fragile, yet strong enough to grow anywhere. I know and feel wild flowers belong in the wild. Still sometimes I can not help putting them in my favorite ceramic handthrown vases.Their stay is always short. For this little tulip vase I experimented combining a deep red stoneware clay with a glaze containing different kinds of local wood for my ashglaze. The raw, earthy tones of the clay peek through the soft, unpredictable ash finish. It came out even better than I hoped. Most of the time I prefer mat textures but I do love the shiny parts in this piece. ..........#ceramicprocess #ashglaze #handmadevase #cremerging #pottery by @sc.simplyclay
