Aviation runs deep in Galveston. Long before sightseeing flights gave visitors a bird’s-eye view of the island, aviation pioneers like Charles K. Hamilton were capturing the public’s imagination with daring feats in the sky. Hamilton made headlines in 1910 for completing a round-trip flight between New York City and Philadelphia, and by 1913, he was part of the action right here on Galveston Beach. More than a century later, that same spirit of adventure lives on at Scallywag Air. We’re proud to be part of Galveston’s aviation story, giving locals and visitors a chance to experience the island from a whole new perspective! Ready to see Galveston from above? 📸 Charles K. The water was looking a little different this afternoon ⛵️ Every year, the Harvest Moon Regatta annual offshore sailing race brings sailboats to the waters around Galveston as they make their way toward Port Aransas. From the air, it’s a pretty great view of all the action! #galveston #harvestmoonregatta #thingstodoingalveston #galvestonisland #scallywagair by @scallywagair
Man, does it feel great to be home ❤️ Off-season is a great time to explore @galvestonisland, take in the coastal views, and experience the island from a whole new perspective. Nothing like some beautiful weather giving you a reason to get out and adventure! We’re lucky to call Galveston home. Meet our 2012 WACO CTO Taperwing 🏴‍☠️ If you’ve ever wanted to get up close with a piece of aviation history, meet N8517. This 2012 WACO CTO Taperwing replica was built by @rareaircraft and acquired by our team in 2020 after a search for an aircraft that would truly capture the history, character, and aerobatic spirit of classic aviation. Powered by a 275 hp Jacobs R755B-2 engine, the WACO reaches a maximum speed of 140 mph and cruises at 120 mph, with a 30-foot wingspan and 22’6” length. Originally inspired by the legendary WACO Taperwing aircraft, this replica carries the unmistakable look of a classic racer and aerobatic aircraft while offering a one-of-a-kind experience here in Galveston. As aviation writer Budd Davidson described the Taperwing: “It was a racer; an aerobat—the sportsman pilot’s dream...” Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast, photographer, filmmaker, brand, or creative looking for a unique setting, the WACO is more than an aircraft. You can rent this plane as a photo backdrop for your next photoshoot, campaign, editorial, commercial project, or creative production. #aviationphotography #photographyrental #houstonphotography #galvestonphotography #galvestonisland by @scallywagair
You can’t take the Waco home with you, but you can take a little piece of Scallywag Air 🏴‍☠️ Our merch is made for the folks who like their Gulf Coast days with a little more wind from an open cockpit. Grab your Scallywag gear, rep your favorite Galveston flight crew, and keep the adventure going long after you’re back on the ground. Shop online or arrange a pickup before or after your flight! #scallywagair #scallywag #merch #galvestonisland #galveston by @scallywagair
Flying over our island means trading streets and Seawall views for open water and that endless Gulf horizon. From up here, Galveston looks a little different, and the sea feels a whole lot bigger. Nothing beats these views from a few thousand feet above our beautiful ocean and home 🌊 #galveston #thingstodoingalveston #datenight #thingstodointexas #houstonthingstodo by @scallywagair
