This painting piqued my interest in taking on more commissioned work focused on family archives. Through this process of creating my first full body of work, I got really interested in this idea of turning old scrapbook photos sitting in grandparents' attics into reimagined artwork that feels deeply personal for your home. “Today is my wedding day!” - a entry I found in one of my grandma’s journals when me and my mom were scrummaging through her attic.

How weird is time? A lifetime of love and joy and dancing and really hard times and really really good times all summarized to a series of photos in an album. Yet children and grandchildren form spider webs of new life choices, getting through hard times, living the human experience all over again just the way our grandparents did. Sometimes I think I am my grandma and my grandma is me in parallel universes. I am my mom, my great grandma, and so on. Making different decisions as life trickles down. Every possible outcome of choices all happening at once, split into parallel timelines. Everything everywhere, all at once. Anyway, these thoughts are probs too deep for Instagram captions… I’ll write a Substack about it eventually.
