There are a million and one reasons, probably even more😆, why I absolutely love Scentwork!

But at the very root of it all is the connection, that incredible Scentventure partnership opportunity it allows to blossom. It helps us shift our mindset so we no longer think of training as “how do I make my dog do X, Y, and Z?”

Instead, it opens our eyes to how to create beautiful opportunities where we want to work together as a team in a true training partnership, just like Donna and Marley! 🧡🐾

🌟 So, what is Scentventure?

My Scentventure sessions use a mixture of Scentwork and behaviour work, either to address your dog’s behaviour issues or as a beneficial preventive measure to stop them developing.

🧱Scentwork and behaviour work seamlessly blend together to create the building blocks to success. Scentwork isn’t just about working the nose, it’s about the mind, body, and strengthening the partnership between you and your dog. These are all key ingredients that are hugely beneficial in behaviour modification plans.

To name just a few examples, the Scentventure framework can help with separation anxiety, loose lead walking, recall, and fear reactivity to both dogs and humans.

It’s the exact same framework I used to support Alfs, my fear reactive dog. Seeing the difference Scentventure made to our lives is what fuels my passion for helping others find their own success through Scentventure 🙌

💌Drop me a message if you are interested in starting your own Scentventure adventure! No auto replies, you’ll actually be chatting to me, because right from the start I know how important that tailored individual support is 🧡

👃So I’m going to be honest, Scentwork isn’t for everyone!

Here are 3 reasons Scentwork isn’t right for you and your dog:

🤗 You don’t want to have fun with your dog.

⏱️ You want to spend hours tiring out your dog.

🧘You don’t want an activity that can prevent or help your dog recover from common behaviour issues.

Wow! Not been put off? Then Scentwork might just be for you! But stay tuned, I’ve got plenty more reasons why Scentwork might not be for you and your dog 🤷‍♀️

🌓October saw the darker nights roll in and the colder days start to hit, which can sometimes make us feel a little glum.

But October also provided some great moments! It is finally cool enough for Scentwork again. I LOVED my hazelnut hot chocolate from @hobocoffeehouse, beautiful sunrises, runs in the autumn leaves, and lots of Halloween fun. I actually love not having to wait so late for a night run, and we even got the shelter winter ready with some maintenance at @dogwoodadventureplay 🙌

The month definitely brought its challenges, like being completely floored by a bug. But October was also ADHD awareness month. One thing I truly appreciate about my experience with ADHD is how adaptable I can be in challenging moments to find a solution. That is exactly the skill set that helps me most when clients face their training challenges. 🧡

What will November offer? I cannot wait to find out!🙌

Our Halloween special has been absolutely spooktacular (sorry😅) for both the humans and the dogs! There were lots of laughs and brilliant fun sniffing for our Teesside scent detectives, as well as yet another ridiculous accent from me! 😅🎃

A big Happy Halloween to you all! I only had one trick or treater tonight. Whilst I may be a little biased, he is definitely my favourite, and tonight he chose trick AND treats! 😆🧡🎃

🎃Whilst Halloween can be lots of fun for us humans, it can be scary for our dogs. Suddenly, people are dressed in costumes on walks and knocking at the door.

However, there are lots of things we can do to help make the night easier for our dogs:

🍬 Place a bowl of sweets on your doorstep so trick-or-treaters can help themselves without knocking at the door or disturbing your dog.

🚪 Consider placing a note on your door (there are printable options available online) kindly asking Trick or treaters to help themselves to sweets without knocking.

☀️Taking your dog for a walk earlier helps them avoid scary costumes and sets them up to feel settled in the evening.

🛏️ Ensure your dog has a cosy place to
go to if they feel worried. This could be on the sofa with you, an open crate, a quiet room, or even under the dining room table. If they already have a favourite spot when they’re worried, that’s pertect! But if not, you could create a spot with a blanket and some chews to help it teel extra cosy.

🧘 Providing calming activities, like using a snuffle mat, chews, licki mat, or scent games like ‘Find the treat! These can help keep them relaxed and distracted.

Hope that helps!

This week was all about trying to find the right reward for Remmy, as that can really help to build dogs motivation to trail. Well, it worked a treat, excuse the pun! 😅😂🐾

The lovely Mila joined us for our Are You Afraid of the Dark Mantrailing session last night. I absolutely love how enthusiastic and focused she was throughout the trail! 🐕‍🦺

Well done, poppet! 😍

Nothing could scare Benji at last year’s Halloween party, including doing a hand touch with THE HAND! Well done, brave buddy! 😍

The only question is, are you feeling just as brave this year? 🎃👻

Well, Molly is clearly getting into the Halloween party spirit! 🎃👻 Sorry, I could not resist!😅

🌬️When the weather is absolutely horrible outside, indoor Scentwork can truly be the perfect substitute! It keeps not only the brain but also the body fulfilled. This means that on the occasional walks you just need to miss, your dog is not bouncing off the walls, but rather enjoying a lovely settled post Scentwork sleep after their session.

Does your dog still need to pop out for a quick toilet walk? Scentwork is a brilliant activity to do back inside that allows you to cut those horrible weather walks short, while still having a wonderfully settled dog at home! 🐾🌧️🧡
