Hi, I’m Marla, and I post about Arkansas.

It’s been over a year since I did an introduction post, so I thought it was time for a new one!

I’m the creator behind Scheduling Adventure. I’ve been sharing about Arkansas specifically for 10 years but started this account at the end of 2021. While I create the content, this is very much a family affair. My husband and two daughters travel and explore with me and even occasionally pitch in with taking photos and videos.

There’s so much I could share about this journey, but we’ll just start here for now!

Did you know you can hike an island in Arkansas?

⛰️ Have you hiked this island trail? If not, send this to your hiking buddies to plan a trip!

The Sugar Loaf Mountain Trail is located on Greers Ferry Lake.

⛴️ NEED A RIDE? You can see the mountain from Fairfield Bay Marina. The marina will shuttle you to the mountain— the only shuttle to the only island trail in Arkansas!

You can also see the mountain from Sugar Loaf Park and Peters Sugar Loaf Marina, both located in Higden. The marina offers boat and canoe rentals for you to take yourself to the mountain where there are boat docks at the trailhead.

🥾 This National Recreation Trail has two trails. The Mule Trail that leads you to the top is considered difficult. The Terrace Trail that circles the mountain is less strenuous, but we firmly believe you have to take the Mule Trail that scales the top for views of Greers Ferry Lake and the Ozark Mountains. You can do it! Plan for the hike to take 2 hours or longer. Note: There is a Sugarloaf Mountain Trail in Heber Springs that is not an island, not to be confused with this trail.

This is my most hiked trail! I’ve been hiking it since I was a kid, and I’m so glad to share it with you!

In South Arkansas, pine trees, cypress knees, bayous, rich history, and good food await you. My dad’s parents and ancestors came from southeast Arkansas. My parents lived in Smackover as newlyweds. Logoly was the first AR State Park I visited as a kid. The history of South Arkansas is also my history.

This was Dennis Quaid’s first film, and this filmmaker made big Hollywood films but returned to his alma mater to make a movie based on his college days.
