Small experiment under the #oaktree. Almost nothing fruit bearing grows here because of the oak tree blocks all the sun. I can’t plant anything serious close to the tree either because I am afraid it’s root rots. Green foliage is perhaps ok to grow though at 15-20 feet from the base of the tree. Experimenting with salad greens. Already terminated and to my surprise the top section. This is on a slight slope so I was expecting the bottom to germinate faster cause it retains water better. The goal is to harvest fast otherwise the rats and insects will eat it. Sow a lot, harvest young. by @schehrazi

I finally harvested something this year. The goal was to grow #potatoes in trash bags filled up with #oakleaves oak leaves. In my experience #oakleaf Is particularly hard to #decompose. I started the bag with a slight amount of soil and filled it with oak leaves as the plant grew taller. Everything that I harvested was from the soil section as the oak leaves did not decompose. Perhaps if I used compost to fill up the bags I could harvest significantly more. Still this is very good for an experiment. Will repeat when it gets a bit cooler. by @schehrazi

Small #farm. The no till #hugelkultur garden miserably failed so while fixing the mistakes there I started another one. Looks a bit more #sustainable. I moved the #comfrey #bocking14 that @jjrael_369 gave me to the sun yesterday. Half of the leaves died off. I started watering it from bottom today. It needs sun but perhaps yesterday was too much sun without watering. I moved the #bocking4comfrey that I got myself to the sun too. The roots are growing but no green yet. Perhaps because it gets cold at night. Hopefully watering from bottom and sun induces green sprout. The #keylime tree we got from #costco is doing ok although it only has one #lime. I planted #mungbean and #marigold at the base of it. #mungbeans are doing ok but most of #marigolds died off. I see two reasons: the #degradedsoil which is #sandy and the #cold nights. The #watermelon is doing ok since I planted the mungbeans. It even has a #babywatermelon. It had one before but it dried off. #morningglory is doing ok. The #rosemary cuttings rooted easily in the sun and water although the rate has been 20% so far. I transplant those to a #redcup today. I need to build up quite a lot of #rootsystem in this soil to be able to do anything meaningful in it. There is lots of #honeybees here. I must plant some flowers to keep them here. In general there is a ton of #insect activity here above the ground but not much #life below. I can’t find any #earthworms. Given that my #notillgardening worked so poorly, I suspect the #bacteria and #fungus life is very poor too. Whatever #organic matter I buried is very much intact although I kept the bed wet at all times. by @schehrazi
