A bitter Dada smile from Quedlinburg.

This collage finds a lady from another century – feathers, fan, elegant hat – holding a small, handwritten sign: _Eat German Bananas! Drink German Coffee!_

It is absurd. It is impossible. And that is exactly the point.

Schelli Schulze works with found imagery and handwriting to expose the small nationalisms of everyday life. The work is funny at first glance, then uncomfortable – just how good political art should feel.
