Today, Chief Whipple had the honor of presenting Nique Simmons, a fourth-grade student at Pleasant Valley Elementary School, with the first ever Community Engagement Officer’s Young Hero Citation.

Nique earned this special recognition after a family member experienced a medical emergency. Without hesitation, Nique took quick action by calling 911 and contacting another family member for assistance. While waiting for help to arrive, he remained calm and made sure both he and his younger brother were safe.

Thanks to Nique’s quick thinking and responsible actions, his family member was able to receive the medical attention they needed. Nique’s actions have been credited with saving his relative’s life.

Please join the Schenectady Police Department in congratulating Nique on this well-deserved recognition. @chiefbrianwhipple @schenectadycityschooldist #cops #kids #community by @schenectadypolice

The Schenectady Police Department is proud to recognize Lt. Michael Dalton as this month’s Officer of the Month for his leadership, professionalism, and continued dedication to the department and our community.

Lt. Dalton oversees Patrol Support Services, including the Traffic Unit, School CEO Program, and canine officers, and also commands the Department’s Crisis Negotiation Unit.

He has also played a key role in planning and coordinating major community events, including Caribbean Day and Summer Night. Most recently, Lt. Dalton served as Incident Commander for Caribbean Day, attended by more than 10,000 people. His detailed planning, coordination, and collaboration with partner agencies helped ensure a safe and successful event.

Lt. Dalton consistently steps up wherever he is needed and remains actively involved in community events outside of his regular duties.

Chief Brian Whipple said, “Lt. Dalton consistently demonstrates the leadership, professionalism, and dedication that are essential to this department. His ability to lead, support our officers, and remain engaged with our community makes him a tremendous asset to the Schenectady Police Department.”

OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

The Schenectady Police Department recognizes October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstance. This month, we stand with survivors, remember those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, and work to raise awareness about the resources available to those who may need help.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, you are not alone. Help is available. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength.

Our officers are here to listen, respond, and connect individuals with resources and support.

Speak up. Reach out. Support survivors.
