📍 On 2nd November 2026, I had the opportunity to attend the Women Parliamentary Conference at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC), Dar es Salaam, under the theme of strengthening peace, security and development across the Great Lakes Region @fpicglr

🌱 As a young leader, I gained valuable insights into:
• Inclusive leadership, peacebuilding and regional cooperation.
• The importance of women’s participation in leadership, governance and decision-making.
• The power of young people’s voices in shaping a peaceful and inclusive society.

🤝 Beyond the learning, I had the pleasure of connecting with inspiring individuals, including @asia_mtonga from UNDP Tanzania’s Youth Advisory Panel. A truly enriching experience! ✨

This International Day of the Girl, stand with girls, listen to their voices, and champion their leadership.

Hear from Scholastica as she shares her advice.

Celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child through learning, leadership, and empowerment! 💗✨

Through Plan International’s one-week training, I learned about leadership, children’s rights, and electoral processes. I also had the opportunity to take over CARE International, where I learned about strategic planning, teamwork, inclusion, and women’s empowerment.

Grateful to Plan International and CARE International for this incredible opportunity to learn, grow, and experience leadership in action. 🌍💕
I also had the beautiful opportunity to meet my sisters, Shadya and Radhia, and learn so much from them. The love, support, and sisterhood we shared made this experience even more special. 🥹💗

Thank you for the time, love, and beautiful memories. I appreciate you all, my GTO 2026 girls!

A day in the Country Director's chair.

#CARETanzania #GirlsTakeOver2026 by @schola_mchome

Yesterday, CARE Tanzania had a new Country Director.

Scholastica Nestory Mchome, 19, a Biomedical Engineering student at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), took over the role for a day as part of #GirlsTakeover 2026, led by Plan International Tanzania ahead of the International Day of the Girl.

She came with questions. Schola sat down with our Country Director, Ms. Prudence Masako, to understand CARE's work across Tanzania. Then she put our Finance, Admin, HR, Communications, and Programs teams on the spot: What does your day look like? How do you work together? How do you solve problems when several land at once? What advice do you have for young people?

Those are the questions of someone learning how an organization really runs and preparing to run one.

One thing stood out for her: the person in the Country Director's chair is a woman. Prudence Masako shared her own journey with Scholastica, from girlhood to leading CARE in Tanzania.

Schola already advocates for the rights and well-being of women, girls, and children and against violence and harmful practices in her community. We have no doubt she will lead where it counts.

Thank you, Scholastica. And thank you, Plan International Tanzania, for the partnership.

One week, countless lessons. ✨

This week at Plan International, I’ve had the opportunity to learn, listen, and grow from advocacy and girls’ rights to women’s rights and the power of learning from others.

We had the opportunity to visit @cdf_tanzania (CDF), where we learned about protecting the rights of women and children, GBV prevention, and women’s empowerment. It was a very meaningful and inspiring moment, especially learning from Madam Lilian kimath, whose fun and engaging session challenged and motivated us as young women to speak up, believe in ourselves, and take action for positive change.

We had the opportunity to visit @uniceftz , where we learned about their work in protecting children’s rights, supporting their health and education, and creating a safe and better future for every child.

@modewjifoundation also visited us and trained us on AI and LinkedIn, including how to use AI effectively, build our professional profiles, showcase our skills, and explore career opportunities through LinkedIn
We also learned about GIZ’s work with women, constitutional and legal rights, and how people can access free legal aid and support when they need it.

We made a movie. ✨🎬

But underneath the scenes, there’s a bigger message:

Girls don’t just belong in the room. They can take over it.

Brace yourselves and Enjoy✨
