First Central, then Sheung Wan and Sai Kung, Schragels lands in Kowloon for the first time with a location soft-opening in Tsim Sha Tsui. With exception to the Islands, the New York bagel producers are now accessible across the length of the city with bagels baked fresh daily. A bagel & schmer costs HKD60, with plain, poppy, sesame, everything seasoning, and cinnamon flavours available. The larger location of three, Schragels in Tsim Sha Tsui opens up with a second floor event space for hosting birthday parties, meetings, events, and art classes. Speaking to Foodie on the opening of her Tsim Sha Tsui location, founder Rebecca Schrage says: “[It] turns out the neighborhood is where my mom and her family grew up in, one minute away from the shop. She used to walk that street every day.” In August, the Tsim Sha Tsui location will expand their evening menu to offer more Jewish and New York classics. On 31 October 1969, Michael Schrage, a native New Yorker, met Elizabeth Mak from Hong Kong in class and invited her to a university Halloween party. He says they went but isn’t sure if they dressed up. What we are sure of is he never attended another Halloween party in his life. They got married in 1971 at a rabbi’s office in New York City and celebrated at Tavern on the Green. Michael’s parents had emigrated from Poland and Russia and ran Jewish delicatessens in the city in the 1950s and 60s. Elizabeth’s parents were married in Macau and raised six kids in Hong Kong while running an import/export business. Gong Gong (on the very right) was a total mensch and lived to the ripe old age of 100. Fast forward 40 years and their first-born Rebecca moves to Hong Kong for a job in finance (like a nice Jewish-Chinese girl) and officially lands the evening of 31 October 2009. And five years after that, because she missed bagels so much, launches Schragels which brings the Jewish New York deli culture from her father’s side to Hong Kong, where her mother was born and raised (not knowing what a bagel was we might add). Halloween has never meant more to a Jewish family before. Happy Halloween from the Schrage family to yours ♥️ #peaceloveschragels (swipe right) The youngest princess in the clan Noa was born in 2021, and in honour of her favourite princess and holiday we will have “Elsa” bagels available in store today 31 October 2024. by @schragels
A special Schragelicious shout-out to the whole wonderful Grand Hyatt team @nikolaoslekkas @soren.lascelles @cheflioncub @andregrosse @christophsadones for being partners and supporters for over a decade now 🧡 When we started in 2014, they were the first 5-star hotel to serve our bagels. They were convinced to come onboard after tasting our product and it’s been a beautiful friendship since. They even put our Schragels brand on display. You don’t know how much it means to a small business like ours. THANK YOU again to @grandhyatthongkong and here’s to the next decade✌🏻 by @schragels

As soon as I found out they had opened a new branch in Tsim Sha Tsui, I knew I had to drop by and show some support! 🥯 The shop has two floors, and the upper floor can even be booked for private events—perfect for a casual gathering or celebration. The food is still consistently excellent. Before leaving, I bought another bagel to take home, and they surprised me with an extra complimentary bagel 🤣 Such a happy ending to the visit! ~~Food~~ 🍳 Leo — Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Salmon, Red Onion & Dill, Homemade Pickles, Plain Bagel with Cream Cheese The Leo all-day breakfast was seriously satisfying. The scrambled eggs were silky and mixed perfectly with the smoked salmon, while the house-made bagel was as good as ever. I also loved the homemade pickles! 🥯 🍟 Add-on Fries The fries are an absolute must-try—so good that I order them every single time. I love these fries so muchhhhh 🍟 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 😋Food quality: 👍👍👍👍👍 💵Value for money: 👍👍👍👍 💯Occasion / ambience: 👍👍👍👍 🤤Would revisit: 👍👍👍👍👍 📝Rating note: 5👍 is the highest score; 1👍 is the lowest by @schragels
