"No big deal" 2026

Material: Urine, A1 acrylic plaster and animal bone remains

Names of the individual pieces: 0.29 ml, 0.12 ml, 0.30 ml, 0.13 ml, 0.25 ml, 0.11 ml, ...

The works in the No Big Deal collection are named after the amount of urine waste actually contained in each object. By using these quantities literally as the titles, it becomes clear that the material itself is often far less spectacular than the word might suggest.
We have become accustomed to sensation. Words such as urine, bones, and bodily remains can immediately evoke feelings of disgust or discomfort. Yet it does not always have to be so intense. What may initially seem large, dirty, or shocking can in reality be small, everyday, and even banal.

"AnneLize" 2026

Sterling silver, human hair

Although I usually name my works after the people whose DNA I use, this piece is a little different. It is an interchangeable ring, meaning that the pendants can be switched and replaced. This allows me to work with different pieces of hair without having to make a permanent choice about whose hair becomes part of a specific piece. To me, that choice feels personal, as using someone’s DNA creates a connection to that person.
Annelize is the person who suggested that I contact a hairdresser and ask what they do with the hair they collect. The hairdresser kindly gave me a bag filled with hair they had collected over the previous month. Annelize had visited the hairdresser just two weeks before, so I know the hair used in this piece is not necessarily hers. Still, I like to imagine that her hair might be somewhere in that bag. Naming this piece after her is therefore my small way of saying thank you for leading me to this unexpected source of material. by @schram_ms

The first piece is a portrait representing everyone whose hair became part of this work. Although these people are strangers to one another, they are brought together in a single artwork, connected through a shared material.

For the second piece, I consciously chose synthetic hair. It possesses the same visual beauty as human hair, while avoiding the ethical concerns often associated with collecting human hair extensions, where donors are frequently underpaid or exploited. The wig itself was recycled from a friend who once bought it for an alter ego she never brought to life. By transforming it into this portrait, I gave that imagined identity a tangible presence.

The human hair in this ring was gifted to me by Floor and Nette. I combined strands from both of them, two people who had never met, into a single ring.

"Floor and little Floor", 2026

Sterling silver and human hair

Part of my collection: "Een eerbetoon aan haar"
These two earring sets, Floor and Little Floor, are named in honour of Floor, who kindly donated her hair to support my artistic work. After carrying it around in a plastic bag inside her purse for an entire month, she finally passed it on to me, a gesture that showed remarkable care and dedication. These earrings are both an ode to her and a token of my gratitude.
