How can we stay silent?

Over the past few years, I often sketched what came to mind after tragedies or news events, the kind that make your blood boil and heart sink, ultimately letting you question your faith in humanity.

I sketched in a way to express this soup of emotions on paper, rather than just spiraling into despair.

But I also never really dared to post or share these things, as if my thoughts or feelings were trash or simply not worthy of your 1.7 second scroll and potential interest.
As if having an opinion would divide people (curse of people pleasers), as if I was only good to share PG friendly, vanilla, bland yet somewhat pretty drawing (once every blue moon, I know).

So here is one that means something.
Not my best work, not the prettiest, not the most detailed. But one that matters.

A4 piece, watercolor on mixes media paper.
Available to purchase, full amount will be donated to @doctorswithoutborders @msfcanada.

Playing around with the IG editing tool (I'm late, I know) with some sketches from yesterdays gesture life drawing session at the @basicinquiry studio.

Poses went from 30 seconds to 5 mins.
It's good to find the playfulness with a pencil again... I missed that. taken in Basic Inquiry Life Drawing Studio and Gallery by @scobebo

The real joke is how much I did indeed overthink this whole strip.. and how many times I went back in forth with it... 🤡

When does the "learn" part form "Live and learn" thing happens? Asking for a friend.

10 years ago today, among a whole bunch of amazing and super talented people, I graduated with a Bachelor degree in 3D Visual Effects.
We all wanted to work in the movie industry, or video games, or something in between, we wanted to tell stories and make them visually beautiful with whichever skill we decided to learn and perfect over the years.

10 years ago today, we had to present and showcase our short films in a private theatre screening, to professionals, friends & family.

After 3 years of studying, countless pages of notes, reading, experimenting, practising and learning anatomy, semiotics, storyboards, rigging, colour coordination, matt-painting, texturing, character design, 3D modelling, lighting, the History of cinema + art in general, compositing, learning that Maya Crashes a LOT, many failed renders, countless sleepless nights and gallons of cheap drip coffee chugged (if not worse), we somehow got there.
We got there with something finished and ready to look at.
Something with a name, a poster, a story and credits. It wasn't a *big* something, but it was *our* something.

10 years ago, I had what had to be one of my biggest sens of achievement to this date.

I am not too sure where I am going with this post... It's not a motivational IG post or anything.
All I know is I am getting hit with nostalgia and great memories (not all of them but mostly).

I am also incredibly grateful that 10 years later, I can still call a bunch of these people close Friends.. heck, some of them are like family to me.

So here's to the people who were part of this incredible journey, through thick and thin, and without whom I wouldn't be where I am today.
To these nerds, now all scattered around the globe, still working countless hours, crashing Mayas and drinking what I hope is much nicer coffee: Happy Anniversary. by @scobebo

Rusty as fuuuuuuuuuuuudge, but still had a blast!
(You do not want to see the preliminary and warm up sketches 😂😵‍💫 a propper mess that was)

Thank you @girishchandok for dragging me back into it.
I've been away from illustration fare too long. Hopefully this will put me back on track. taken in The Beaumont Studios by @scobebo

Portrait study of a Pikachu. 🐭⚡
.
I have been noodling on this one on and off when I work was a little slow. Not perfect yet quite happy with how it came out..
.
Straight to ballpoint pen, because who cares if both eyes are at the same size 😖

About last night...
.
.
I kept exploring with the Sharpie marker, and then my good buddy @joua.k let me try an other type of marker with high a longer shaft (so you could use the side of the tip for thin to thick strokes..) The "dry brush" effect only came up as I the drawing was fast and ink had trouble getting down fast enough ✍️💨
.
It's good fun, I definetly feel like the unforgiving black ink is forcing me to 'own' my lines a lot more, losing to option to 'hesitate' really changed you mindset.. not easy, not confortable, but he'll of a learning curve (I have been told) 😏

Not the best one but I like the energy of it.

I'm rather new to drawing this big and it's weird how scale can throw you off, making you lose your landmarks or proportions.

Anyhoo, live and learn✍️💨 taken in Basic Inquiry Life Drawing Studio and Gallery by @scobebo
