Music spin-off from my @scolephoto account. Grew up on 80s metal & jazz. I recommitted to learning guitar about 3 years ago & I’m making progress. 🤞🏻

Well this didn’t turn out nearly as tedious as I thought it would be. When I got my wrap to match the rest of my #pdpcxseries drums, the underlying black finish bled through the wrap too much (last photo). Unlike other drums, this 805 popcorn snare doesn’t have a wrap- it’s a lacquer paint so I could just remove it by using heat and peeling it off.

Rather than deal with chemical strippers, I just grabbed some 80 grit and gave it a quick shot. It sanded through really easily and after 15 minute, I could move up to 180 grit and remove the rest of the paint. The black that remains are locations where the wood has dented inward due to dings or because of the hardware getting screwed into place.

For the most part, I’m just installing chrome versions of the same hardware so I don’t think I need to do a whole much more prep. Sweet.

Buy twice, then buy nice. Eventually this happens. Just picked up a #dwdrums 5000 Double Bass pedal.

The @hipshotproducts bridge upgrade for my #squierbass Jag came yesterday. Quite a beefy upgrade from the stock piece. 💪🏻 #diyguitar #bass by @scolemusic

New Bass day. A year or two ago, I saw one of these for sale locally. I didn’t grab it but its looks stayed with me. It’s a @sweetwatersound special run & a few months ago I discovered that they were going to do another run these.

I should have jumped on it back then because it was on back order for $270 but jumped up to $320 when it finally came back in stock last week. This is one of those situations where buying new will likely be cheaper than buying used.

As with all my instruments, I basically can’t leave well enough alone. I will be upgrading the bridge, tuners, and pickup but I’m not in a big hurry to do this. This does mean I need to say goodbye to one of my Ibanez basses. It has served me well. I hate dealing with people and selling things tho. 😂 #bass #newbassday #squierbass #jaguarbass by @scolemusic

My $65 #whammypedal lives! I got around to replacing the encoder which had a broken off shaft with a replacement. I have experience soldering electronics in guitars but removing components from a circuit board was a new experience (and it shows). The best tip is to walk away when you get frustrated.

A small issue with the replacement encoder was that it had a small nubbin which prevented the sub-board from joining the enclosure properly. I used a Dremel to cut that off and everything is good as new. 💪🏻 #digitechwhammy #guitarpedal by @scolemusic

Did I need this #digitechwhammy pedal? no.

Could I pass up buying this one for $65? Also no.

The encoder’s post is broken off but a seller on Reverb (Pete’s Pedals) sells a replacement encoder for $20 so I’ll have a functioning Whammy after 5 minutes with a soldering iron for $85, which is well under the going rate for Whammys. I’ll be raging against the machine in no time. #guitar #guitarfx #guitarpedals by @scolemusic
