AI music used to feel like a weird internet experiment🤖

Now it’s in playlists, group chats, fake gospel songs, “beautiful” mystery voices with no actual human behind them… and sooner or later, Carnival is going to have to deal with it too.

Because if AI can generate melodies, vocals, riddims and full songs, what happens when someone decides to make AI soca?

And the bigger question: would people even care if it sweet?

This isn’t just about new technology. It’s about culture, ownership, stolen voices, unpaid artists, and whether a system that does not understand where soca comes from can reproduce the thing without flattening it.

As Bunji Garlin said, WE are the sound of soca.

So if the sound gets copied, who gets credited? Who gets paid? And who protects the spirit behind it?

Naomi Osaka was serving before the first ball even left her hand 🎾

At the 2026 US Open, she turned every walk onto the court into a reveal: her career stitched into a custom Who Decides War look, an Allen Iverson tribute, Thom Browne tailoring, Monse’s boardroom-meets-streetwear switch-up and a KidSuper finale she described as “swaggy.”

But style has never felt like an afterthought for the Haitian-Japanese tennis star. It is another language through which she brings together sport, culture, heritage and every version of herself she chooses to show us.

And if there is one thing the Caribbean understands, it is that the event sometimes starts from the entrance.

Swipe through Naomi Osaka’s rules for serving before the first serve, then read the full Kit feature at the link in bio.

🎤👑 Mighty Sparrow’s legacy was never just about hits.

Across decades, he used calypso to document the Caribbean in real time: the politics, the protest, the scandal, the humour, the road, the contradictions, the things people whispered and the things only calypso could say out loud.

From “Jean and Dinah” to “Carnival Boycott,” “The Slave,” “Federation,” “Obeah Wedding” and more, these are only a few songs from a catalogue too large to fit into one post, but they help explain why Sparrow was more than a calypsonian.

🔥He was memory.
🔥He was mischief.
🔥He was commentary.
🔥He was the culture talking back.

Rest in power to the Calypso King of the World 🕊️

Damian Marcano wants to bring more than two Emmys home 🏆🇹🇹

When SCORCH caught up with the Morvant-born filmmaker, he was in Jamaica between filming commitments on the The Pitt,
to talk about the work behind the wins.

He took us inside his approach to directing, the small scenes that demand his attention and the relationships that have shaped his Hollywood experience.

Throughout the conversation, he kept returning to the people who helped him get there and what he hopes to make possible for Caribbean filmmakers coming after him.

“Don’t look at me as great. Only look at me as the stepping stone to our greatness.”

CONTENT NOTE: This post discusses suicide and mental health.

More Caribbean people are carrying anxiety, depression, grief and emotional pressure.

But a lot of us still suffer quietly, hiding behind “I dey,” productivity, prayer, jokes, partying or simply being the person everybody else depends on.

We've seen so many headlines where people's lives have come to an end as because they were suffering in silence which makes the need for honest conversations even more urgent. We can't wait until someone reaches crisis before taking their pain seriously.

That is why the openness of Nailah Blackman, Patrice Roberts, Lil Bitts, Lila Iké, Machel Montano, Konshens and Turner matters.

Their experiences are different, and their disclosures should NOT be interpreted as accounts of suicidality. But by speaking about anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, grief, isolation and exhaustion, they help make these conversations less foreign and remind us that somebody can keep showing up while quietly struggling.

It's Suicide Prevention Mont and normalising mental health means creating space for people to say, “I’m not okay,” without being mocked, dismissed, preached into silence or expected to carry it alone. Lewwe talk about it.

Nia Long didn't need a sidewalk to tell us she was a star 😮‍💨

📽️ From Brandi in Boyz N the Hood to Nina Mosley making people argue about Love Jones almost 30 years later, Jordan Armstrong mindin' everybody's business in The Best Man, and Sherry somehow not realising Martin Lawrence was dressed as her granny…Nia's filmography is basically a tour through modern Black movie history.

Now Hollywood has made it permanent, honouring Long with the 2,857th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

So obviously we had to go back through some of the roles that made Nia, NIA.

But there's another reason we're watching this moment a little closer from the Caribbean 👀🇹🇹

Long's family roots trace back to Trinidad, and her Hollywood milestone opens up a much bigger conversation about Caribbean identity, migration and just how much of the diaspora is hiding in plain sight throughout global pop culture.

🔥 Read “Nia Long's Hollywood Star Is Also a Caribbean Diaspora Story” at the link in bio.

Now buss the argument: which Nia Long role is THE Nia Long role?
