Getting creative juices flowing. Pondering my past and examining my present. by @scott.gearheart

I haven't posted in quite some time, but that's not because of anything negative. Life has been busy. Life has been good.

Hey, the Stanley Cup playoffs are in full swing…it can't get much better than that, right?

This painting was created in 2015 and sold to a dear friend. She recently returned it to me, thanking me for the opportunity to have it in her possession during a very tough season in her life. She wanted me to have it back. Such a genuine and heartfelt gesture.

I thought I would post it here again. I'm including the story I wrote about it immediately after I had finished painting it.

"Yea, though I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil."

2015

This piece carries deep meaning to me. I played hockey since I was five years old. My dad was introduced to the sport late, picking it up in his late 20s. And it wasn't long thereafter when my older brother and I laced up the skates. (My younger brother would pick up the sport a few years later.) We would play for hours in the basement, garage, and street… And when we were lucky enough, on actual ice.

I had probably spent a full decade of playing at Valley Ice Arena. It was like a second home to me. But on February 11, 1987, my life was forever changed at that rink. Right there, along the boards, between the blue line and the goal line, is where I suffered a break in my cervical spine. That injury caused my spinal cord to be bruised, and from that point on I was medically classified as a quadriplegic.

I don't hate sport. I don't hate a person caused the injury. It happened. This painting represents the scene of one of my most life–altering events. by @scott.gearheart

Championing artists is great, and my friend Scott Gearheart overcame the obstacle of paralysis through paintbrush held by his mouth. This work has been with me for several years and I’ve decided to move it into the Northwest Collection upstairs from the entry foyer. One piece I admire is his work of Autzen Stadium - along with everything that is such attention to detail in addition to a story of personal resilience. by @scott.gearheart

I have not painted in a few days. This video was taken the same day as the previous one. I am doing well and happy, And I plan to paint later on this week. Whether or not they are liked, my paintings make me happy. Painting them makes me happy. #DisabledAndProud #quadriplegiclife #disabilityawareness #disabledartist #nevergiveup #suicicideprevention #suicicideawarness by @scott.gearheart

This one took me between three and four weeks to create; of course, it was on and off and on and off over that span of time. Go Oilers!

I can create a custom painting for you if you’d like. Just send me a DM.
