Men over 40 don’t need more days. You need harder ones. Two sets to failure beats five sets of going through the motions. Heavy, rested, home in an hour. That’s why it’s called Work→Out. That’s the whole game now. Getting jacked comes down to.

1. 20+g of creatine, split dosing, not 5 = muscle first, brain gets the rest

2. Do 2 hard sets per exercise = not 4 easy ones

3. Train the muscles to failure = every set counts

4. Train 3 to 4 days a week, not 7 = you grow on the off days

5. Lift heavy, 5 to 8 reps, not 12 to 15 = strength is the goal now

6. Keep the workouts to an hour = in, work, out

7. Use machines with free weights = both earn their place

8. Rest 3 minutes between sets = heavy needs full rest

9. Prioritize protein and salt = fuel and fluid

Men over 40 don’t need a new identity. They need proof from the week. Stop saying what you are and start saying what you did: the lift, the walk, the meal you tracked. That’s the list that changes a man. I coach men over 40 on exactly this. kept promises, counted daily.

Your problem isn’t low T. It’s low standards.

Men over 40 keep asking why it is so hard to lose belly fat after 40, why they’re so tired in their 40s, why they have no energy after work. Low testosterone after 40 is real. So is running to a clinic for a shot before you’ll take a walk. Half the men blaming their hormones haven’t kept a promise to themselves in years, and the body is just following the man.

The shot doesn’t fix the man. It just makes him feel better about staying the same.

Is 40 too old to get in shape? I had heart problems at 39 and rebuilt from scratch, so I know the answer. But a prescription will not hold a standard for you, and nobody is coming to do it for you either.

Men 40+ don’t have a knowledge problem. Every man reading this already knows what to do. He has an honesty problem, and it shows up every Sunday night when he promises himself this week will be different. That Sunday night guilt isn’t weakness. It’s the distance between the man you say you are and the man your week just proved.

One of them has to move.

Men over 40. Your problem is not discipline.

You hold a job, pay the bills, raise kids. That’s discipline. The part that doesn’t work is the part with no structure. Lifts that move every week, food you decide when you’re already starving, and nobody checking when you go quiet.

I fix that part. Set days, food I can see, and a check-in every week where we fix what broke before it costs you a month.

DM me REBUILD. I’ll ask you a few questions, and I’ll tell you if I can help.

The perfect week is why men over 40 stay stuck. Build a training week you can repeat on your worst week.

Three to four lifts. Basic movements. Get stronger over time.
Walk ten minutes after every meal.
Protein in every meal. Decide lunch before you leave the house.
Set a bedtime and put the phone down.

You give your whole day to everybody else. Your body gets a spot on the schedule too.

DM me ‘REBUILD’ and I’ll go over your numbers with you.

Men 40+, this is the standard. Not a suggestion, not a goal. Seven tests that tell you exactly where you stand, and what each one is really measuring.

1. 25 push-ups, unbroken. If you can’t press your own body 25 times, the floor owns you. This is the minimum a man should be able to do with his own weight.

2. 5 strict pull-ups. The test most men fail first. If you can’t pull yourself up, you can’t pull yourself out of anything.

3. Bodyweight bench, 5 reps. Your weight on the bar, clean, no bounce. Strength you can prove, not strength remembered.

4. 60-second dead hang. Grip is the first thing to go and the last thing men train. One minute on the bar tells the truth about your hands, your shoulders, and your spine.

5. 50 bodyweight squats, unbroken. Legs that work. If 50 air squats wind you, stairs already got you.

6. One mile under 10 minutes. Not fast. Just not dead. A man over 40 who can’t do it doesn’t have a problem with motivation. He has a problem with priorities.

7. Farmer’s carry, 40 yards carrying half your bodyweight in each hand. Grip, posture, and grit all in one walk. This is the strength real life demands.

Scoring: 6 to 7, you hold the standard. 3 to 5, you’re drifting, and you know which ones got you. 0 to 2, you need to be thinking about changing.

Are you still a savage? Most men over 40 reading this can’t pass three.

How many can you pass? Drop your number.

Comment STANDARD and I’ll send you the full audit.

For men over 40, accountability starts with a session your coach knows about. Give your coach the time, the session, and the agreed check-in. by @scottf.patterson

Men over 40, your savage season starts right now.

40+ isn’t the decline. It’s the comeback. You lift heavy after long days, bad sleep, zero applause. That’s the 1%, that’s the standard.

Here’s what most men get wrong about fitness over 40. They chase motivation. Motivation dies. What works is structure: train, eat, sleep, repeat. No negotiation.

Build muscle after 40 the same way you built everything else that matters. Brick by brick. Send this to a savage still lifting heavy and drop your heavy ass weights in the comments.

Gym bros need to be studied.

You’ll research muscle growth for six hours, weigh your meal prep to the gram, and somehow decide chicken and rice can fix your relationship.

Bodybuilding isn’t a hobby anymore. It’s your entire customer support department.

Men 40+. Read this list twice. The second time, count how many are you.

You’re not lazy. You’re not broken. You’re running on an old self-image and everything you do is trying to match it. That’s why the perfect plan never sticks. The man holding the plan doesn’t believe he’s the man who executes it.

The fix was never more information. Identity first, habits second. Act like he’s already back and the body follows.

Which number hit you hardest? Drop it in the comments. Follow @scottf.patterson if you’re done lying to the mirror.

Men over 40, you’re still training like your 25. That’s why it keeps collapsing.

There’s 168 hours in your week. You’re telling me you can’t find two? It’s not the hours. It’s that your plan needs six perfect days and your life gives you three filled with chaos.

Stop building plans for the man with no responsibilities. Build for the man you actually are: busy, tired, and still expected to deliver everywhere else.
