Not everyday is a good day on the railroad

Just before noon NS 815 had came to a stop in Banner VA to split it's train up and head into Tom's creek, but gravity had other plans. Here we see a text book definition of a string line derailment, it is when the cars find the least resistant path to go. Although a derailment occurred no injuries or deaths occurred which is good. taken in Banner, Virginia by @scottlane804

Didn't run so far away

Fresh out of bristol, 127 rolls its way into Bluff city TN with NS 4851 in charge. 4851 is all dressed up in "TAG Route" blue and yellow, meant to honor the Tennessee Alabama and Georgia railway. A few miles up the rails it would be held on the main due to a 126 with sanding issues which also had a heritage leader.

Scrambling north

Chugging right along the north end of the hannum siding we see a 26 year old YN2 still chugging along as it pulls a empty South carolina power train enroute to Typo KY on the former L&N. Soon both Locomotive and the signal will not exist as modernization will kill off the remaining Clinchfield R2 signals and also kill off the remaining YN2 AC44s taken in Unicoi, Tennessee by @scottlane804

Keep climbing

On a sunny and cold Appalachian day. NS 118 makes itself known to the small town of Keystone with the loud prime mover doing all it can as it climbs the Elkhorn grade. 3 miles up the rails we see 11E coasting down with a increasingly rare SD70ACC rebuild leader. Word is they will be removed entirely from the roster as newer and more reliable locomotives come onto the roster. by @scottlane804

Still alive and kicking cars

A busy bee

After just loading at Paragon not even a few hours prior, U44 charges up the grade into Norton VA with a crispy 1067 throwing sand and diesel fumes leading the way. The crispy bee in charge was notorious for having several problems on its way down to Paragon, blowing a turbo would be one of them hence the crispy nick name.

Double trouble

Recently Reactivated 9747 and 9908 tries its best at pulling a heavy 54W up the Elkhorn grade in Maybeury WV. 9747 is currently the last active thoroughbred running the rails on the Norfolk southern system. Many moons ago these could always be found roaming NS but due to the AC44C6M rebuild program both the Thoroughbred and Horsehead C44-9Ws have died out significantly. taken in Maybeury, West Virginia by @scottlane804

Springing into Pembroke
