Magritte said “This is not a pipe” in his painting but he titled the piece “The Treason of Images”.
The point is the same here… well, maybe different...certainly more referential, you can say derivative if you like, not much interest in criticism here… just many more pipes because there are many, many more images in the world and much, much more treason.
Surrealism came from turmoil in which questioning reality was more of a survival response than a parlor game. We see that language creates reality. Here it comes again. by @scottmillsop

It is a fixed place. But the flow always moves through here. It was always there. Always here.. Consider that. This place was fixed in place to this place always. When it was a deer crossing. Fox path in a time before roads. Way for wolves. Ages before mammals. This. Always here. Now there are roads. Then there were paths. Then there was pavement and then patches. This is light and darkness. Passing light. A moment illuminates a hieroglyph. Art in the headlights. by @scottmillsop

Sometime in the spring we will open the window and then Riley’s world will return. His world is much about air things, aromas and winds. So the whole wonder of the world is not available to him when the window is closed. Even the available sights and sounds are a little bit blurred. Glass keeps the noise down and pressing the nose against glass leaves marks that obscure things a little. Winter was like that too, for all of us. by @scottmillsop

One of the women was certain that she had been visited by a demon spirit. Some of the others doubted her, but not all. She was, after all, an abrasive personality, quick to gossip and reluctant to join in the work of keeping the church clean and welcoming. No one thought to invite an angel spirit to intervene except Bobby, but when he did the woman left town. by @scottmillsop

Decomposition for Rain and Piano.

Cort says he’s not crazy.

“Growth,” he says. “It grows.” He’s talking about his music.
Cort says “When I was an aspiring child Mr. Bennet told me
'Your playing is too mechanical. It is machine-like,' he said.”

Cort looked up and to the left and said, “I took a different approach after that. And years passed. Decades passed. And then I heard ‘Your playing is too intellectual. Much too much thinking. I then understood that it needed to be more organic.”

Cort nodded slowly. He smiled.

“So I brought my piano out here by the fence. I played a great majestic chord on a full moon night then let it ring out. It is still reverberating. Ringing in the rain. Dehydrating in the sun. Disintegrating through the seasons. It is natural music now. It is a music that decomposes. Music that provides a home to creatures, an anchor for plants. Music that will become part of the earth, become soil. Ivory becomes stone.”

Welcome to Charlieville. That's what it says on the sign on the side of Suds, the laundromat at one end of town. Bitsy Penrod painted it there. But it's not the official sign. The official sign says Charlestown Town Limit and it incorrectly lists our towns population. The unofficial sign is painted in cheery colors on cinderblock and it is fading. Just like Charlieville is fading, little by little, for a long time.

The official sign is further up the road. It's metal and its overgrown with vines. It has a couple of rusty .22 caliber bullet holes in it that someone shot there on the way out of town a long time ago. I'm not going to say who shot them there, and I'm certainly not proud of it anymore. I just want you to see the town.
