POSTS STORIES REELS

One of the biggest lies we accidentally tell people about recovery:

Get sober and life gets good.

Nah.

Sobriety doesn’t guarantee happiness.
It doesn’t fix your relationships.
It doesn’t heal your wounds.
It doesn’t magically make you like yourself.

Sobriety gives you a fucking shot.

You stop participating in the destruction long enough to finally see what needs rebuilding.

No longer participating in self-destruction means you finally have a shot at reconstruction.

That’s where the real work begins.

Stop running. Start rebuilding. by @scottrussellftg

This was never about football.

It’s about identity.

It’s about purpose.

It’s about the conversations we avoid until life forces us to have them.

I’m incredibly grateful to Coach @thereallanekiffin and LSU Football for trusting me with their players.

See you again on August 10.

God doesn’t need you to feel ready.

I spent a lot of my life waiting for my thoughts and feelings to give me permission to do what I already knew I needed to do.

Waiting to feel confident. Waiting for the fear to go away. Waiting until I could make sense of everything before taking the next step.

But that’s not faith. That’s negotiating with life.

The truth doesn’t change based on how you feel about it. And the beautiful thing is, you don’t have to feel good about doing the right thing. You just have to be willing to do it.

You can be scared, confused, uncomfortable, and full of doubt and still walk toward God.

Stop waiting for your mind to get on board.

Take the step. Let the truth do its work.

What if the only person who hasn’t forgiven you is you?

Man, the things we will do to punish ourselves for who we used to be.

We’ll get sober. Change our lives. Make amends. Do the work. And still carry around this little courtroom in our heads where we’re simultaneously the defendant, prosecutor, and judge.

And somehow the verdict is always guilty.

That’s shame.

And shame is a hell of a prison because eventually you don’t even need anybody else to lock the door. You do it yourself.

I spent years believing that if I hated myself enough for the things I’d done, maybe that meant I was taking responsibility.

But self-hatred isn’t accountability.

You can acknowledge the harm you’ve caused, take responsibility for it, make things right where possible, and still allow yourself to be forgiven.

In fact, you better.

Because if you spend the rest of your life trying to punish the person you used to be, you’re going to miss the person you’re becoming.

Forgiveness isn’t pretending it didn’t happen.

It’s refusing to let it own you anymore.

Most men would rather carry 500 pounds of pain than be seen asking for help.

We learned how to look strong. Constantly acting okay.

Nobody showed us how to actually be strong, which takes total honesty and willingness.

The thing we're most afraid of, being vulnerable, is usually what sets us free.

Men, there's a place to put some of that weight down. My free Skool, link in bio.

What if everything you’ve been trying to become is already who you are?

For most of my life, I believed the thoughts in my head. The ones telling me I wasn’t enough, that something was wrong with me, that I needed to become somebody different before I could finally be okay.

And then breathwork introduced me to something I hadn’t experienced in a long time.

Myself. Without all the noise.

Not a better version of me. Not some spiritually perfected version of me. Just me.

And for a moment, all those stories I’d been carrying around about who I was fell away.

That’s what I love about this work. It’s not about adding more to yourself. It’s about experiencing what’s already there when the mind gets quiet.

You can spend your entire life trying to think your way into being enough.

Or you can begin to discover that you never needed your mind’s permission in the first place.

If your peace depends on someone texting you back, you’ve handed them the keys to your self-worth.

I’ve spent plenty of my life doing this. Waiting for a response. Reading into silence. Making up stories about what somebody else thinks of me.

And the whole time, I thought the problem was that they weren’t giving me what I needed.

But what if the real discomfort is being left alone with ourselves?

We can spend our entire lives looking for other people to reassure us that we’re lovable, wanted, and enough.

And even when they do, how long does that reassurance last before we need another hit?

At some point, you’ve got to stop outsourcing your worth.

Someone else’s attention is a beautiful thing. But it was never supposed to be the foundation of how you feel about yourself.

If you’re tired of looking outside yourself for the love and security you’ve been withholding from yourself, come join us in the Skool community. We’re having these conversations and doing the work together. Link in bio. by @scottrussellftg

The best hospital in the world can't send an addict home healed.

They'll flush your system, give you fluids and point you at the door.

Same at the famous clinics as at the local ER.

And then you walk out. Back to what?

The real work starts after discharge. Start it with people who've been there in my free Skool.

Getting sober gives you your feelings back. Every single one.

The best part and the hardest part are the same thing.

Sounds corny, I know. Cliches get that way because they're true.

One thing at a time, people.

You don’t need to quit drinking, smoking, caffeine, sugar, and every other bad habit by Tuesday.

Sometimes we get so obsessed with becoming the perfect version of ourselves that we forget to appreciate the fact that we’re making progress.

Handle what’s killing you first. The rest can come.

Recovery is about progress, not perfection.
