SCRATCH MY NOSE - WFMU

This was the intro song to SMN radio shows, which was uplifted from WFMU in New Jersey USA - early 2000's.

The theme song is appropriated directly wholesale from @triplemsydney 1980's theme song - with it's over the top guitar and drum solo's.

@bturner_67 then WFMU New Jersey. USA. Music / Program Director described SMN radio shows as “... great examples of quality, freeform, creative and adventurous art … Ritalin inspired, constantly chattering and clinically insane.” - Brian Turner.

Video also appropriated from SMN video footage - which music / sound was used for recordings for radio show on @wfmu, @radioliban96.2 in Beirut Lebanon, and @fbiradio in Sydney Australia. Video footage from SMN performance at the Ding Dang Dong #Karaoke Bar in Surry Hills. Recently found VHS tape which was corrupted with sound almost inaudible. Perfect.

SCRATCH MY NOSE - WHIPPY

Recreating Whippy Sydney CBD.

Two weeks after September 11 2001, SMN performed ‘Whippy’, a one-off performance in the Sydney CBD city block circling George, Pitt, Bathurst and Park Streets adjacent to Town Hall. The pivotal focus of the piece was the orchestration of sounds from three Mr Whippy vans and ten cars and the theme tune "Greensleeves".

These short videos have missed the cut for one reason or another - but are still in the spirit of original performance.

‘Whippy’ transformed this Sydney CBD city block into an orchestration of sounds derived and guided by the nature from the city space by using pedestrians carrying hidden devices activating sounds, mobile phones with ringing jingles, muzak piped through shops (including Woolworths), buskers, children with musical toys, random car alarms, a convoy of ten cars with blaring speakers and the Mr Whippy vans circling the city block with a newly composed and manipulated version of the tune “Greensleeves”.

SCRATCH MY NOSE - AI vs Mr Whippy

The pivotal focus of the piece was the orchestration of sounds from three Mr Whippy vans and ten cars and the theme tune "Greensleeves".

‘Whippy’ transformed this Sydney CBD city block into an orchestration of sounds derived and guided by the nature from the city space by using pedestrians carrying hidden devices activating sounds, mobile phones with ringing jingles, muzak piped through shops (including Woolworths), buskers, children with musical toys, random car alarms, a convoy of ten cars with blaring speakers and the Mr Whippy vans circling the city block with a newly composed and manipulated version of the tune “Greensleeves”. To complement the mayhem typical of this particular city block performers played out the characters of hawkers, street eccentrics, religious fanatics, pamphlet distributors and sign bearers all delivering humorous SMN witticisms.

This culminated in the presentation of multiple detuned versions blaring from the convoy of cars and Mr Whippy vans ultimately synonymous with “Greensleeves”. The site’s uniqueness within the city district therefore allowed the general public to be active participants in ‘Whippy’ whether they realised it or not.

SCRATCH MY NOSE - Pole Posters

Electrical pole posters are everywhere in Sydney. Bands. Warehouse fashion sales. SMN manipulated this format to spread its take on all things. Often overtly political.

SMN pole posters campaign that was shown throughout Sydney between 2008-11. Here they have been given the AI tweak.

POVERTY JETSET

Our thoughts go out to our peers. friends and family in Beirut.

Again Beirut - it is being used in a proxy war on its territory due to the conflict in the Middle East.

This is a short snippet from the film 'Poverty Jetset' - created by @scratchmynose which follows Australian photographic artist @elvismost (Damian Dillon) - here in this snippet of the film plus joneslocust (Locust Jones) on there visit leading to there show in Beirut. The film here shows locations in downtown Beirut including the Green Line. The road to Damascus. Near locations in the southern suburbs of Beirut where Israelis bombing has occured over the last week - where Dillon photographed the concrete urban environment.

Again - today the people of Beirut live with this psychological war, which is reinforced by the sounds of buzzing drones 24 hours of the day - where a friend of mine said "... we are now in a regional conflict. Every side is hoping to enter history books, but there is a bigger possibility of exiting geography books".
