On Thursday, October 1st at 7PM, we will be hosting a single-session workshop titled FESTIVAL READY with Sydney Rodriguez (@syd.alicia), Artist Programs Manager at BlackStar Film Festival.

What is the work required to get your film noticed by a film festival? How do you create a festival plan as part of the exhibition and distribution strategy for your film? In an open dialogue with Sydney Rodriguez, learn first-hand how you can shine in your festival submissions. This workshop will offer tools, tips, and tricks for filmmakers interested in placing their films on the festival circuit.

An ASL interpreter will be available to facilitate communication for all attendees.

🗓️ 💥 Don't miss the second annual North Philadelphia History Festival, September 25 - 27, showcasing John Coltrane and his lasting musical and spiritual legacy in North Philadelphia.

More than a dozen events celebrating jazz, spirit, stories, and history will take place at community sites across North Philadelphia, including live performances, film screenings, photo, audio, and video exhibitions, oral history installations, tours, and more.

Gerald Veasely and Lovett Hines present an exciting evening of live music, featuring the CORE All-Stars led by Mervin Toussaint, and the Hines Generation to Generation Legacy Septet performing at the outdoor venue next to Coltrane’s historic home near 33rd and Oxford Streets.

🎙️NPHF Video Installation Spotlight 🎙️ Isis & Osiris

Isis & Osiris is Ephraim Asili's 2-channel video installation examining Alice Coltrane’s experimentation with the harp, an instrument bequeathed to her by husband John Coltrane.

The work, which features the music of Grammy-nominated, NAACP Image Award-winning harpist and composer Brandee Younger, will be installed in the storefront vitrines of 1500 Cecil B. Moore Avenue (Beech Companies), viewable from the sidewalk and playing continuously through October 24.

Named one of “25 New Faces of Independent Film” by Filmmaker magazine, Asili’s works have screened globally including at the New York Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, The Berlinale, and the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

🎙️ NPHF Video Installation Spotlight 🎙️ El Jardin de la Música y El Espíritu

Anula Shetty and Michael Kuetemeyer of @termitetvcollective have collaborated with Iris Brown of the Norris Square Neighborhood Project @myneighborhoodproject to install a series of augmented reality artworks at Las Parcelas Garden.

Co-created with local residents, these stories explore Bomba and Plena, two deeply spiritual Afro-Puerto Rican musical traditions born from the need to honor ancestors, survive hardship, and resist colonialism.

This installation is part of “Places of Power: Las Parcelas,” a community-based, immersive AR/VR project by Termite TV.
