Inspired by… with @trevorpaglen

Trevor Paglen is an artist from the United States unpicking the relationship betwee art, technology, the visible and the unseen rooted in the geopolitical and romantic sublime.

For Contxt, he chose an artwork, a book, a film and a record that inspires him.

Artwork - The engraving St Jerome in His Study by Albrecht Dürer created around 1514 is an image of the Christian scholar in harmony at work in the context of a typical 16th century study with allegorical animals in the foreground.

Book - The Nag Hammadi Library (created in the 3rd-4th Century) is a series of Gnostic texts discovered in Egypt in 1945, containing fragments attributed to Jesus Christ.

Film - Artist Tony Conrad’s experimental 1966 film „The Flicker“ is an abstract monochrome work that created stroboscopic effects, produced by Jonas Mekas and influenced by the writing of William Burroughs.

Album - Souls at Zero is the third album by Neurosis released in 1992 on Jello Biafra’s label Alternative Tentacles. It sits at the intersection of post-metal sludge and hardcore punk.

Introducing Contxt Data: a live view into our archive process, the backbone of our fight against slop in the conversation on contemporary art.

We’re building the most comprehensive, canonical archive of art. Agentic research runs autonomously, 24/7. Across 2,700 runs, we’ve added half a million entities to our knowledge graph — 150k claims in the last week alone. And we’re only just starting to scale; that number will get wild fast. What sets us apart from pure LLM + web search: no hallucinations. Every fact grounded in verified, citation-ready sources — who said what about whom, when, where, and how. Because culture is only as good as the care you put into it, and slop is not the way. If we want AI to accurately reflect how art can make us feel, we need to give it a way to understand how art is truly spoken about.

We’re getting ready to share more of the actual archive soon. by @scriptedfantasy

At the Virgil Abloh show at Grand Palais, kids were airdropping files from the display computers. Not browsing — participating.

“That’s cultural energy. Much more valuable than trader energy.”

What if art is the connective tissue between people and ideas — rather than an ownable object?
