One of the most interesting things about looking at an early draft is seeing how the script evolved, what ideas were kept, what was reworked, what ultimately made it into the final version, and what was left behind along the way.

Alex Wolff pushed his body to the absolute limit during the possession scene in Hereditary. He originally asked to break his own nose on the desk, but director Ari Aster refused and provided a foam-padded prop instead.

As revealed by the actor himself in an interview with Gold Derby, to create the scene's horrifying look, he used an old boxing injury to deliberately dislocate his own jaw and held his breath until his face turned red. When he slammed his head down, the force cut through the foam and struck the solid structure underneath, making his nose bleed for real. This visceral commitment turned genuine pain into a modern horror masterpiece.

"Being a mother is a crushing responsibility."

In The Lost Daughter, Olivia Colman delivered an extraordinary performance as Leda, a woman confronted by the memories and choices of motherhood. Her performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in 2022, while the film was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress, for Jessie Buckley, and Best Adapted Screenplay, for Maggie Gyllenhaal. Although it did not win in any of the three categories.

“Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself?”

For the mirror scene in Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance,” Demi Moore shot 15 takes of removing and reapplying her makeup over and over again, as her character becomes increasingly upset with her appearance.

“It was a certain kind of madness,” Demi told Variety. “There are three setups for that scene, and easily 15 takes for each. Also, the idea of looking at yourself in the mirror and seeing only what’s wrong, it’s like you’re seeking to make yourself uglier, so you can look how you feel.” She added, “I got to a point where I couldn’t do it anymore. And Coralie still wanted one more take. The makeup artist stepped in and said, ‘We’re done.’”

Demi Moore received her first-ever Oscar nomination for her performance in “The Substance” at 62, marking one of the most significant moments of her career. However, she did not win the Best Actress award, which went to Mikey Madison for “Anora.”

📞 "-What's your favorite scary movie?"

Kevin Williamson wrote the Scream script in just three days, inspired by real-life news reports of a serial ki*ller. Originally titled Scary Movie, the script blended horror with dark humor and self-aware characters who knew horror movie clichés. The famous “rules to survive a horror movie” scene became iconic. Studios fought over the screenplay, and it was Dimension Films that finally picked it up—launching a franchise that redefined modern horror.

"Someone has taken their love of scary movies one step too far. Solving this mystery is going to be m*rder."

Aronofsky’s signature “hip hop montage” was already described in detail in the script, choreographing every injection, pill, and heartbeat to show the compulsive cycle of dr*g use. Much of Selby’s raw, poetic prose from the novel was preserved, making the screenplay feel literary as well as cinematic.

Importantly, the filmmakers refused to soften the story’s bleak ending despite studio pressure, keeping it brutally faithful to the book.

The result is a screenplay meant not just to be read or filmed, but felt, a descent into obsession, illusion, and despair that remains one of the most powerful portrayals of addiction ever written.
