POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
House of Fly’s Bahamas Camp host Drew Evans picks his “most unique” saltwater fly patterns, flies that have worked for Evans on bonefish and other saltwater species. Some of these are well known, others not so much. But you can’t ignore the inventors of these flies: Drew Chicone; Dave Chouinard; Doug McKnight. Throw these and you’ll have some expert fly-tying and fish-catching mojo in every cast. Read more, link in bio. by @scuds.mackenzie

ICYMI: Some stories are too good to get buried in the feed. We’ve published a handful of them over the past month, and if you haven’t been keeping up with the House of Fly blogs, you’ve got some catching up to do.

Find out what you missed at houseoffly.com.

“Heading into the 2026 Smith River float, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Having floated this iconic Montana river twice before, once in the 1990s and again in 2013, I knew the experience would be different this time around. With new regulations in place and the river more popular than ever, it seemed inevitable that we’d encounter more anglers, busier camps, and fish that had seen their fair share of flies. Still, the allure of the Smith remained as strong as ever, and the anticipation of another journey through its legendary canyon was impossible to resist.”

Author Drew Evans heads into Idaho’s remote Frank Church Wilderness to chase steelhead on the Salmon River while staying at the legendary Shepp Ranch. Evans tests some of the most exclusive swing water in the Lower 48 and comes away with as much awe for the country as the steelhead he chases.

House of Fly’s Calvin Fuller discloses his Top 4 Favorite Skating flies for Idaho’s Clearwater and Snake Rivers. These patterns also serve well on Washington’s Grand Ronde River. Keep a few of these in your fly box and you’ll be set to see surface takes from steelhead that range to 40 inches long.

HOF POD: House of Fly sits down with western fly tying legend Kris Keller who reps for Montana Fly Company and ties some of the most interesting and effective patterns known to man. Check it out right now.

SIMMS ACCESS WADING BOOT: Author Greg Thomas found Simms’ Access wading boots to offer a great mix of traction, stability and comfort during his 2026 testing season. If you’re looking for a lightweight boot that can stand up to rugged abuse, and even thrive while negotiating slick, mossy, rocks and boulders, this may be the boot for you.

Idaho’s most remote steelhead destination is one you’ve probably never heard of.
.
No roads. Very few anglers. Miles of untouched swing water and B-run steelhead.
.
Getting there is half the story.
We went deep into Idaho to fish it.
