Lip macules are one of the most misunderstood things we see in lip work.

They are not the same as general lip hyperpigmentation or multi-tonal tissue, and neutralization will not simply make them disappear.

Macules are small, flat areas of concentrated melanin within the lip tissue. They can be influenced by genetics, sun exposure, hormones, medication, trauma, or previous irritation.

The reason they can be so resistant to pigmentation is because the tissue itself has been damaged. It does not implant and heal color the same way as the surrounding tissue.

This is why lip work is never about choosing a color and covering what we see.

Lips are living, layered tissue. We have to understand what we are working with, what the tissue can realistically accept, and adjust the goal accordingly.

In this case, the macule across the workable lip surface was blended by working with a lower-value color. The internal mucosa remained visible, because that tissue could not be treated in the same way.

Knowing the difference between what can be corrected and what needs to be accepted is a huge part of becoming a more confident lip artist.

Lip blush is a long-term investment in your look.

Her first session was in 2017, with a second in 2020. Six years later, you can still see how beautifully the color has softened and faded. In 2026, we refreshed her lips again.

The goal isn’t just a beautiful result on the day of your appointment. It’s how your lips look years later, too.

Welcoming clients in Manhattan and Miami.

The great moments of your life won’t necessarily be the things you do. They’ll also be the things that happen to you.

Now, I’m not saying you can’t take action to affect the outcome of your life. You have to take action. And you will!

But never forget, that on any day, you could step out the front door, and your whole life could change forever, whether you want it to or not!

You see the Universe has a plan; and that plan is always in motion. Just like a butterfly flaps its wings, and it starts to rain. It’s a scary thought, but it’s also kind of wonderful.

All these little parts of the machine for your life are constantly working… Making sure that you end up exactly where you’re supposed to be.. exactly when you’re supposed to be there.

It may not feel like it in the moment and you may miss it’s relevance because you are too busy being busy getting someplace to even notice.

Stop and remember EVERY MOMENT IS: The right place, this place. The right time, this time! taken in Brickell by @sculptedstudios

Ombré lips for darker lip tones, but make them completely customized. 🤎💋

With the right shade and color placement, I balanced the contrast and between the upper and lower lips while enhancing their shape.

The goal is to enhance YOUR lips, not change what makes them unique.

The result? A personalized ombré lip combo designed to last 1–2 years.

If you’re still struggling with excessive trauma, inconsistent saturation, shaky outlines, client discomfort, unpredictable color choices or uneven retention, learning another step-by-step technique probably isn’t the answer.

You need to understand why these problems happen and know how to change your approach when they do.

New phone. Worse photos. 😩

Upgrading from my iPhone 16 Pro Max to the 18 Pro Max came with the usual frustrating learning curve.

I immediately noticed that my photos didn’t look the same. Color, texture, sharpness and overall image quality were different.

No surprise, they’re different cameras. But the question was: how do I get the quality of my old captures back, or make them even better?

The answer was adjusting the camera to the way I actually shoot cosmetic tattooing.

I shoot through Video mode and use the white shutter button to capture my stills.

After testing different settings, this is where I landed:

4K / 30 fps
HDR OFF
Enhanced Stabilization OFF
Auto FPS OFF
Lock Camera ON
Lock White Balance OFF
ProRes OFF
High Efficiency ON

I use 1× for most photos and 2× for close-up lips, brows, eyeliner and detail shots.

When shooting at 2×, I move farther away rather than putting the 1× camera extremely close to the face. And I tap the actual 2× option instead of pinch-zooming somewhere in between.

One more thing: good lighting still matters. Especially when accurate skin and lip color is part of your work.

The lighter natural lips shown here were photographed on my 16 Pro Max. The naturally darker lips were photographed on my 18 Pro Max after adjusting my settings.

Still learning the new camera, but the difference after changing the settings is already huge.

So many of you asked int the comments for the post regarding the 18 settings, so I resurrected this post from the archives.
And here it is 💋

iPhone 16 Pro Max camera settings.

So many requests asking how I take photos, so here are the settings I use.

Open your camera and make sure these settings are correct:

4K / 60 fps
HDR OFF
Enhanced Stabilization OFF
Auto FPS OFF
Lock Camera ON
Lock White Balance ON
ProRes OFF
High Efficiency ON

Use F2.8 or F2.5. Don’t go too high or too low. Too low can blur the details, while too high can make the image darker. F2.8 keeps a good balance of sharpness, light and background blur.

Always tap directly on the area you want in focus before taking the photo.

I use 1× for most photos and 2× for close-ups and details. When using 2×, just tap 2× instead of zooming in with your fingers. For close-ups, step back a little rather than putting the phone too close to the subject.

Take several photos so you have plenty to choose from later.

And lighting still matters. Make sure your light is even so you can accurately capture the skin and pigment without harsh shadows.

Dark lips exude their own unique beauty. At the same time, I know that for many there is desire for a brighter, more balanced look.

Lip neutralization isn’t about altering who you are-it’s about gently enhancing your natural shade to reveal softness, uniformity, and a healthy glow, all while embracing the qualities that make you uniquely you.

Every pair of lips tells a story, and my passion is to help yours shine ⭐️
