National Public Health Week ⭐️

HIGHLIGHTS:
-Week 1 in the Clinical Research Center (I didn’t think I’d enjoy clinical, but it’s pretty amazing)
-Attended Blumental Symposium — This endowed symposium honors the legacy of Daniel Sender Blumenthal, MD, MPH, who devoted almost 40 years teaching medical and other health professionals how to properly treat and care for disadvantaged underserved populations.
-Met APHA President, Dr. Nandi Marshall @ the Blumenthal Symposium
-A BUNCH OF DISSERTATION BRAINSTORMING w/ the same faculty and staff that made sure I mastered my MPH thesis! 🤩
-Had the opportunity to meet current MSMMPH students (I’ve had so many convos with them online and over the phone, but never in person😩) — great experience!

The top two questions I’ve received since 2021. How I chose my graduate school and WHY I chose my grad school.

One word. Community. MSM not only brought me a community of students and faculty, we’ve worked within the community and partnered with stakeholders within the region that have common goals.

Additionally, seconds years mentor first years. This is something not seen within programs, but was important for me to have a guide. I still speak with my mentor until today, Gabrielle Fisher, MPH! @okgabby_

Orientation Dump back from August 🫶🏽🫶🏽

In moments like this sometimes imposter syndrome can hit. I’m a 25 year old former federal government and state employee now in a Doctoral Program regarding Global Health. Me being in this program is a testimony that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Orientation showed me:
I AM in the right place.
I AM going to succeed no matter the obstacles.
I WILL be Doctor Savy T
I WILL be someone that is considered an expert in my field!

We have to speak life over ourselves and be around people that can do that on the days we have little confidence in ourselves and our work! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

Every 10 ten years, Healthy People (2030) sets data-driven national objectives to improve health and well-being over the next decade. You can google this information if there are certain subject areas you’d like to enlighten yourself on…. 🤗

The purpose of the last two post was to explain what Public Health, SDOH, and Healthy People 2030 is. With this basic understanding we can now dive into my work and my why! ☺️

Can we start here first? ☺️ I get this question so much!! My answer in short.. PUBLIC HEALTH IS EVERYTHING! I honestly describe it as “Medical Doctors focus on individual health, whereas public health practitioners focus on the community” if you think about it. Everything impacts the communities health.
