One tap to call.

If someone's looking you up on their phone, chances are they want to call. The only thing between them and you is how easy it is to tap your number.

If it's buried at the bottom, sitting inside an image, or doesn't dial when they tap it, you've made them work for it. Some will, some will just try the next business.

Quick test, open your site on your phone and tap your number. If it doesn't start a call straight away, it's worth fixing.

Say it plainly.

The top of your website has one job, tell someone what you do and where you do it.

Not a slogan, not "welcome to our website", just the words your customers would use if they were telling a mate about you. If someone has to scroll to work out whether you can help, some of them won't bother.

Have a look at the first thing people see on yours. If a stranger couldn't say what you do after reading it, that's the easiest win you've got.

Open after hours.

When someone's looking for help at 9pm, you're off, which is fair enough. Your website isn't.

It can tell them what you do, where you work and how to reach you, so the first call you get in the morning is from someone who's already made up their mind.

Worth opening your site on your phone tonight and checking those three things are easy to find.

Make it ring.

Nobody actually wants a website. What they want is the phone to ring.

That sounds obvious, but it changes how you judge one. Not whether it looks modern, not how many pages it has, just whether it brings you calls from people who need what you do.

If you're not sure whether yours is pulling its weight, ask your last few new customers how they found you. That answer tells you more than any design opinion.

It cited nothing.

South Africa gazetted its national AI policy on 10 April and pulled it on the 26th. The reference list cited journal articles that do not exist. Go and check what your AI cites.

Most people who search Google never click anything any more.

SparkToro measured US Google from January to April this year off Similarweb clickstream data. 68 percent of searches ended with no click at all.

The exceptions they named are branded searches, local business searches, and searches where someone is ready to buy. That is your search. Someone typing "borehole drilling near me" is not reading a summary and going away satisfied. They are looking for a company to phone.

Zero-click is a problem for people writing blog posts hoping to get found. It is not your problem. Local still wins.

A real enquiry came through a contact form and got filed as spam. Not the email spam folder you'd check, the form's own one, which lives inside the website and nobody ever opens.

That's the part that catches people. Nothing bounces, nothing errors, no notification fires. From the outside it looks exactly like a quiet week, and the person on the other end thinks they were ignored.

Worth going and looking at yours. Log into your site, find your form plugin's entries or submissions screen, and check whether there's a spam tab on it. If there's anything sitting in there, it's been there a while.

One edit won't do.

We found an old address in the footer, the contact page, the structured data, the map link, and inside page descriptions no setting reaches. Search your site for your old one.

Your map is heavy.

A live Google map on a contact page looks like a small thing. It cost 690KB and took that page's Google PageSpeed score from 97 to 79, out of 100. One element, 18 points.

It's a map to one address, it doesn't need to be able to find Tokyo. So we swapped the embed for a picture of the map. Tap it and it still opens Google Maps, so nobody loses their directions. 76KB instead of 690KB, and the page came back at 99 desktop, 100 mobile.

Worth checking yours, run your contact page through Google PageSpeed Insights and see what's heaviest on it. If there's a live map down there, it's probably that.
