Some golf courses are remembered for a single iconic hole. Others linger in the memory because of how they make you feel.

Perched high above the Sussex coastline, this is one of England’s great walking courses, where every step is rewarded with sweeping panoramas across the English Channel, the iconic Seven Sisters cliffs and the rolling South Downs. Sharing those fairways with Ralph only adds to the experience. There are few better places to spend the golden hour than wandering this remarkable landscape with your four-legged companion by your side.

The layout embraces its hilltop setting beautifully. Fairways rise and fall naturally across the downland, creating constantly changing angles and vistas, while the ever-present sea breeze ensures no two rounds are quite the same. Rather than relying on excessive hazards, the course asks thoughtful questions through its contours, positioning and exposure to the elements.

Its charm lies in its authenticity. The routing feels completely at home within the terrain, with each hole possessing its own identity while seamlessly flowing into the next. It is a course where strategy evolves with the wind, and boy can it blow up there, rewarding imagination as much as execution.

The conditioning consistently impressed, particularly considering the exposed coastal environment, while the welcoming atmosphere made me feel immediately at ease. It is an unpretentious club that simply lets its extraordinary setting do much of the talking.

There are more demanding tests nearby, but few courses deliver such an overwhelming sense of freedom and connection with the landscape. Walking these clifftop fairways with @ralphs_mystery_adventures , watching the light dance across the Channel and breathing in the sea air serves as a reminder that golf is about far more than scorecards.

Seaford Head is a golfing experience to savour—one where the journey between shots is every bit as memorable as the shots themselves. by @seafordheadgolfcourse

With the prolonged hot weather we will be implementing a no smoking ban at the golf course. Thank you for your understanding and realising it’s for the safety of everyone and the local area. by @seafordheadgolfcourse

I think the secret maybe out. Thank you everyone that has posted and enjoyed our wonderful golf course. The Greenkeeping team work hard to produce a course that can be enjoyed by all. Please keep them coming and sorry if we forgot to add anyone. by @seafordheadgolfcourse

Seaford Head Golf Course is one of those rare finds in modern golf: fun, fair, and blessed with some of the best views in the country… all for £36.

Heavy cloud, sea fog rolling in from the Channel, and winds so strong we genuinely couldn’t stand our golf bags upright on the exposed holes made for brutally tough conditions. Whilst the Seven Sisters spent most of the day hiding behind a grey veil.

Despite the weather doing everything possible to hide this place’s beauty, it still couldn’t hide it completely.

The Front 9 eases you in, offering chances to score if you’re sensible from the tee and committed with your approach. Then the course starts to climb.

By the 11th and 12th, anticipation builds with every step uphill. And then, as you play into the 13th, the coastline finally reveals itself.

The Seven Sisters briefly emerge from the gloom, the English Channel stretches into the distance, and suddenly you understand why people talk about this place.

The closing stretch is golf at its most exhilarating. Turning for home means turning straight into the wind. We battled our way along the cliff edge from 15 to 17, leaning into gusts that made us feel like we were recreating the Earth Song music video!

And then comes the 18th.

One of those tee shots that makes you stop, smile, and simply take it all in. Perched high above the fairway with the Channel on one side and the Sussex countryside on the other, it’s the kind of view that reminds you why golf is unlike any other game. The invitation is simple: open your shoulders, swing hard, and watch your golf ball fly into the backdrop.

The light wasn’t kind. The visibility wasn’t great. But Seaford Head you still found a way to put on a show.

A huge thank you to Dave from the Birdie Club Podcast for hosting me. We also filmed a match through those chaotic final holes, so keep an eye on the channel for that coming soon.
