Ferry the Finale

Easily my favourite shot from the Ferry series.

I went and got some night images and I didn't particularly like how they came out so those probably won't come out unless i figure out a sensible edit. taken in Ferry by @seanemurray

The road from the Vale

After a morning with very few opportunities due to the fog over the area, I decided to call it a morning and head back to town.

On the way out, I was immediately struck by a scene in front of me with clearly carved beams of light streaming through the leaves as the fog started to life.

It grabbed me so much that I parked on the opposite side of the road and take my my chance with it. taken in Jamaica by @seanemurray

Lunar Eclipse May 2022

The shot that almost didn't happen.

Having completely forgotten, I was consumed with watching this Frankenstein show while working through the backlog of images for Q1.

After receiving messages from a few friends, I eventually went outside to check but was rudely greeted by (badminded) cloudy skies.

After repeatedly checking 4 different times, one mind told me to check Photopills. When it asked my phone for the compass to load augmented reality it was greeted with a resounding.... WI NUH AVE DAT

After almost calling it a night, I eventually borrowed my wife's phone and installed Stellarium which was initially looking like pay to play. I eventually got it to work and it pointed me to the promised land which was in a brief but clear-ish patch of sky.

The rest is history. taken in Grand Cayman by @seanemurray

The day after the news and photos from the worldwide aurora, myself along with the society out here, made our own attempts.

While this attempt did fail I did capture some long over due imagery of my long long friend the night sky.

This is the story of my favourites that night, some of which included (green) airglow.

The last photo was a touch of false hope/delusion thinking that I did infact capture a sliver of the aurora after maxing the red slider and playing around with the colour balance. taken in Grand Cayman by @seanemurray

The eclipse today gave me a fight. The clouds were mostly out and the sparse opportunities that I had, were the brief spaces in the clouds.

While I did miss the peak, I left with these...

P.s. those black areas on the first image are sunspots. taken in Grand Cayman by @seanemurray

Illuminate

From the start of the year I've been going through my catalog trying to curate images for a couple of ideas that I have.

An unintended consequence is that I've been encountering a few images that now spoke to me and required a bit more love in the edit to pull out its full potential. This is one such image from Sept 2020.

Strangely enough, being away from actively taking photos, being inspired by great work from others while going through this process I think might have triggered a slight evolution in my photographic eye and how I see light.

Let's see how that plays out and if it leads to even greater work (and being one step closer to my final form 😅) taken in Jamaica by @seanemurray

Layers and Layers and Layers...

Stumbled on these images from 2021 over the weekend and edited them with some fresh eyes.

After seeing them, along with other images from that space and the possibilities, I NEED to find my way back to that perch when I get back.

Which of these are your favourites?

It's honestly difficult to get tired of this space.

No matter how far it is and how many times I've gone, it keeps calling me back.

and for today's Solar Eclipse 👀

This one was an interesting experience.

This was my first time shooting a solar eclipse and I had a abit of uncertainty in execution. From the quickest of searches, you'll find that damaging your sensor and eyes are incredibly EASY if you don't take the right precautions.

While I didn't have the right filters, I made do with what I had. If you check my stories, you'll see where I taped 2 10 stop ND filters to a polarizing filter on my lens. You'll also see the rough uncropped image which was worrying st points.

I tried with 10 stop after but it didn't work out as well as this so I'll take it.

I'm so glad that I tried that now I need to get me some proper filters but one struggle at a time. taken in Grand Cayman by @seanemurray

Somerset Falls

Saw a video from I think @raskitchentv over the last two weeks that reminded me of how dry @somersetfalls could be during the drought.

They were able to walk in a dry river bed to see this same view (sans water) which had me shook.

The shock aside, last year I had a chance to get there early to capture these lovely images.

The missing shots from this set, which weren't meant to be on this trip, were to get photos from inside the cave, especially one include the falls. At this point, I had tied up the boat for too long and people were likely waiting on the boat. From a risk standpoint it was probably for the best as I didn't see any solid place to work from as a base. taken in Somerset Falls by @seanemurray
