Three signals this week that legal AI continues to move from hype to real stakes:

Norm AI hit a $1.2B valuation by running its own AI-native law firm, priced on outcomes not billable hours.

Fastcase v. Alexi went to a DC court. The real fight isn't "can AI train on law," it's whether the data license even allows it. Contract law, not copyright.

Legion dropped its case against the government the moment access to two restricted AI models returned. Model access is a policy risk now, not just a feature.

Capital, data rights, and access. That's the actual story.

Everybody says they're a great capital allocator. I found three that actually are, and they weren't in tech.

Biotech has gone nowhere for 5 years. So why is the CEO of one of the biggest AI companies calling it the next big trade?

For 60 years, making a drug only got slower and pricier. It was named Eroom's Law, Moore's Law backwards. In 2026, AI broke that.

What used to take 5 years to discover now takes about 18 months. Early-trial hit rates for AI-designed molecules are running well above the historical norm. And the money's moving, with Lilly dropping $2.75B on one AI drug lab, and McKinsey stating AI could save pharma up to $110B a year.

But...no fully AI-designed drug is FDA approved yet. The first wave hits late-stage trials this year.

A cheap, forgotten sector plus the collapsing cost of inventing drugs. Is this the trade of the decade hiding in plain sight?

What you may have missed: a federal judge just ruled in U.S. v. Heppner that a defendant’s chats with consumer Claude weren’t privileged. Not a blanket rule. It turned on the consumer tier and using it without a lawyer’s direction. But it reframes everything. The real variable isn’t Harvey vs Claude, it’s enterprise setup vs consumer.
